MFHS senior dies in June 9 car accident, funeral set June 14

On Saturday, June 9, at approximately 4:47 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a crash on Texas 71 close to the Travis/Blanco County line, in which 17-year-old Marble Falls High School senior Maribel Enriquez was seriously injured and transported to St. David's Hospital; Enriquez was later pronounced dead at the hospital. 

According to a statement issued by DPS Sergeant Ryan Howard, Enriquez was traveling eastbound in a Ford Mustang when her slick rear tires caused her to lose control and slide across multiple lanes of traffic into the path of a Mercedez-Benz, occupied by passenger Preben Hammer, 71, of Austin, who died at the scene, and his wife, 68-year-old Alice Hammer of Austin, who was later pronounced dead at St. David's Hospital. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz and the passenger in the Ford Mustang were transported to St. David's Hospital, both in critical condition.

A memorial service for Enriquez was held in the Mustang Gym on Sun., June 10, and funeral services are being planned.

In a statement issued to Marble Falls ISD, MFHS Principal Damon Adams shared the news of Enriquez' passing.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share with you the tragic news that we have lost Maribel Enriquez, a Marble Falls High School rising senior,” the statement said. “This will be a very difficult time for our Mustang Family and we are focusing our efforts on supporting the family, friends, and community as we grieve this terrible loss.”

MFISD will have counselors available for those seeking support from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

A Celebration of Life for Maribel Nikole Enriquez was held Wednesday, June 13, at Edgar Funeral Home, 109 N Main St, Burnet.

Mass is scheduled Thursday, June 14, at 10 a.m. at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, 105 FM Rd 1431, Marble Falls.  Funeral to follow @ Marble Falls City Cemetery.
