Marble Falls Celebrates Veterans Day Saturday

Veterans Day again will be celebrated by Falls on the Colorado Museum (FOCM) in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Marble Falls but a month-long exhibit honoring veterans is opening at the museum at 2001 Broadway Street.

At the Veterans Day program at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, the warhorse Reckless and the Bluebonnet Chorale will return to add to the recognition of all U.S. military veterans.

Marine Staff Sgt. Reckless' proxy, Dixie, commemorates one of the greatest Marine heroes of the Korean War. The original Sgt. Reckless was a chestnut horse that carried needed ammunition to the Fifth Marines during a five-day battle.

The Veterans Day Celebration in Granite Shoals is best served with sunshine, as it was here in 2014 and as expected this Saturday, Nov. 4. In fair weather or foul, the program honoring those who have served in all branches of the service from all over the Highland Lakes are welcome guests for a program and lunch at the Veterans Park pavilion on south Phillips Ranch Road.

The annual Granite Shoals Veterans Celebration will be held this Saturday, Nov. 4, a week in advance of Veterans Day and just in time for a sunny and cool fall venue.

The 2017 event will be held again at Veterans Park, 1208 South Phillips Ranch Road, with a complimentary lunch veteran military service men and women and their families at the park pavilion.

Veterans to be saluted Saturday

Veterans from every branch of the service and from all up and down the Highland Lakes are invited to the 11th Annual Veterans Day Celebration of the City of Granite Shoals.

Citizens are invited to show their support for area veterans by attending the program that will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at Veterans Memorial Park at the south end of Phillips Ranch Road.

The Highland Lakes Honor Guard will conduct the flag ceremony and children from Highland Lakes Elementary School will perform patriotic songs.

“We invite everyone, and especially our veterans, to join us for a free lunch after the brief ceremony,” said Seth Smith, chairman of the Granite Shoals Parks Committee, which sponsors the event.
