Pancake breakfast to say 'Thanks for Everything!' on Feb. 13

An event dubbed the “Thank you for Everything Pancake Breakfast!” has been scheduled for 8 a.m.-10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Political candidates in every race from Texas Senate District 24 and Texas House District 20 to local races have been invited to meet and greet constituents at the event sponsored by Burnet County Emergency Service District #6 and the Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Department (MFAVFD).

“This is a free breakfast, just to say thank you,” said Nancy Hansen, president of the board of directors of ESD #6. “We hope it can be an annual event.”

Visitors will be able to meet VFD volunteers and staff and to tour department facilities at 606 Avenue U Marble Falls, Texas. The ESD board members, appointed by the Burnet County Commissioners Court, will be present as well. They include Hansen; J. Don McAlpin, vice president; Robyn Richter, secretary; Herb Holloway, treasurer, and Londa Chandler, assistant treasurer.

The ESD was created by election held on Nov. 22, 2011, but ad valorem tax to augment fire and emergency medical service was not immediately instituted. The tax rate for 2013-14 of $.08611 per $100 of valuation was reduced for 2014-15 to $.08350 per $100 of valuation to supply $224,000 for the contract with MFAVFD to provide first response service to the district.

Since inception, ESD No. 6 has purchased two new F550 fire/rescue brush trucks at a total cost of approximately $180,000 and acquired the Avenue U fire station for approximately $210,000. The department currently has 22 active members who respond through the Burnet County 9-1-1 exchange 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

“The department has held pancake breakfasts before, of course,” said Hansen. “But, this is the first time the ESD has joined in.

“We hope everyone will join us. Overflow parking will be provided at Foxworth-Galbraith Lumber Company, 510 Industrial Boulevard.”
