Mustang football camp is an opportunity for young gridiron hopefuls to learn the fundamentals of the game, but it means something a little different for football fans: the season is right around the corner.

This week, seventh, eighth, and ninth graders hit the practice field with Mustangs coaches to punt, pass, kick and tackle their way to learning the sport.

The coaches rolled out some classic drills to improve all aspects of the young players' games, including some fun drills such as the tackle wheel.

The camp marks the end of summer for football players; full team practices begin next week.

Football photo day is on Aug. 15 with the first scrimmage of the year – against Lampasas – on Aug. 16.

The Mustangs opted for two scrimmages this year; the second scrimmage is a week later on Aug. 23 against head coach Brian Herman's former team, Liberty Hill. The regular season begins on Aug. 30 at home against Canyon Lake.

Season tickets are on sale now online at etix.com. Tickets can be purchased at the athletics office starting Aug. 5.
