Ghost Bike memorializes victim in Granite Shoals

A Ghost Bike, which serves as a memorial, was recently erected near the site where retired physician and bicyclist Stephen Tibbitts was struck and killed Oct. 3 by a pickup truck trailer on FM 1431 in Granite Shoals.

For San Antonio physician and Granite Shoals resident Kim Koster, the Highland Lakes is an ideal place for bicycling.

It's one of the things we love. There's lots of rural roads, lots of climbing,” he said. “It's a real scenic route.” Koster added he does so as much for health as enjoyment of the scenery.

So when he heard about the death of 66-year-old bicyclist Stephen Tibbitts on Oct. 3, also a resident of Granite Shoals, his heart sunk for those who lost the loved one on FM 1431.  . . .
