Marble Falls city officials vowed to address growing traffic concerns by a neighborhood fed up with speed and cut-through vehicles off FM 1431 and U.S. 281 into a historic district.

A Ghost Bike, which serves as a memorial, was recently erected near the site where retired physician and bicyclist Stephen Tibbitts was struck and killed Oct. 3 by a pickup truck trailer on FM 1431 in Granite Shoals.

Bicyclist struck and killed on FM 1431 in Granite Shoals

A 66-year-old Granite Shoals man has died after being struck by a commercial trailer being towed by a pickup on Farm-to-market Road 1431.

The accident happened just after 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 in the 8400 block of the highway, adjacent to Quarry Park in Granite Shoals.

Marble Falls adds streets to "No thru truck traffic" zones

On Sept. 17, Marble Falls City Council approved further restricting where large trucks can cut through on city streets, as they're attempting to navigate off off or onto state highways US 281 and FM 1431

 

 

 

 

. . . The Marble Falls City Council approved exemptions on Sept. 17 for an amended “No Thru Truck Traffic” ordinance as well as added streets to the list of restricted zones.

Officials began researching ways in 2018 to reduce the noise and road maintenance impact in areas including the Main Street shopping district. In December officials debated the pros and cons of adding routes to the list of truck restricted areas.
