When the RM 2900 Bridge in Kingsland washed away on Oct. 16, 2018, teachers at the Marble Falls STEAM Academy found inspiration for a real-world assignment that hit close to home.

After finding more than 18 species of fish during a recent sampling trip on the Llano River, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Inland Fisheries staff are encouraged to see fish populations rebounding following historic flooding in October 2018.

The Hill Country Community Theatre presents “Doublewide, Texas,” the fourth show of its 2018-19 season¸ by playwrights Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten.

In this hilarious, fast-paced comedy, the inhabitants of one of the smallest trailer parks in Texas — four doublewides and a shed — are thrown for a loop when they realize the nearby town of Tugaloo is determined to annex them.

The city of Marble Falls declared April Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month, during their April 2 regular meeting. Members of entities which provide resources offered the latest figures, programs and efforts to protect children. Mission Marble Falls donated $5,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of the Highland Lakes on Thursday after receiving a $10,000 donation from 100 Chicks for Charity. Children of the Boys and Girls Club of the Highland Lakes got comfortable in the new chairs and booths provided by local Whataburger restaurants recently. The Marble Falls Whataburger location recently remodeled its interior and donated the old tables to the Boys & Girls Club.  On Feb. 19, Whataburger district manager Keith Jensen and Burnet general manager Shaun Dilworth served kids plates of chicken strips in Marble Falls.

When the Highland Lakes flooded in October, the Marble Falls Girl Scout Huber House was rendered unusable. Thanks to local citizens who stepped up in a time of need, however, the building was renovated and is ready to reopen just three months later.

The Marble Falls Rotary Club, along with generous donations from additional Rotary clubs, recently awarded $17,427 to the Burnet County Flood Victim Relief Fund to assist with long-term relief efforts created in response to the October 2018 flooding in Burnet and Llano counties.

When faced with the death of a loved one, divorce, or single parenting, everyone pushes through the grief and struggles in a different way. Many people need support and guidance when faced with difficulties in their lives, and Care Nights at First Baptist Church Burnet are designed to help these individuals cope in their own ways, with the support and guidance of caring individuals.

FBC Burnet will host the spring sessions of GriefShare, DivorceCare, DivorceCare4Kids (DC4K), and Single & Parenting programs Tuesdays, starting Feb. 5 and continuing through April 30.

The four seminars are designed to guide participants in coping with the effects of divorce, single parenting, and grief through informational videos, group discussions, and personal workbook exercises which cover the week's topics.
