Elections officials have reported a “meager” first week of early voting in Burnet County for the primary elections featuring the presidential race and contested congressional races as well as county and judicial positions.

“It's been somewhat disappointing,” Burnet County Elections Administrator Doug Ferguson said. “When you considered the last presidential (primary) election in 2016, we're voting about 100 people fewer per day than then.” …

Early voting for the Tuesday, March 3, Republican and Democratic primaries in Burnet and Llano counties begins Tuesday, Feb. 18, and continues through Friday, Feb. 28.

In the second incorporation vote in a year, city of Double Horn citizens by 53.8 percent voted down a proposition Nov. 5 which would have abolished their city, according to preliminary results from Burnet County elections officials.

The special incorporation election for the city featured one item – proposition A – in which a “vote for” would have reversed a decision by residents in December 2018 to change the subdivision into a city. . . .

Horseshoe Bay City Councilmember Cynthia Clinesmith was elected the city's third mayor during the Tuesday, Nov. 5, general election, according to complete but uncanvassed returns.

The city of Double Horn has approved a second election which, depending on the vote, could overturn the municipality's incorporation status which first passed in December 2018.

Petition co-coordinator Glen Zoerner made the announcement in a written statement, following an Aug. 19 response deadline for the city for an election “to call the question of abolishing the city's corporate existence.” The incorporation vote is scheduled for Nov. 5.

A group of Double Horn residents have petitioned for an election to dissolve the incorporation of the newly-formed municipality, alleging “no benefit” to the residents and lack of powers to control mining industry growth nearby.

Burnet County residents will no longer vote at the Burnet County Courthouse after commissioners agreed to move the Voting Precinct 2 polling place during Tuesday's regular meeting.

There will be three new faces on the Meadowlakes City Council after voters elected the bloc of Barbara Peskin, Eddie Wise and Gerry Mason on Saturday, May 4.

Burnet County adds audio sample ballots

Early voting for the May 6 municipal and school board elections will begin Monday, April 24.

Applications for voting by mail must be in the hands of the election office by Tuesday, April 25.

Voters will be making a choice for Burnet Consolidated School District Board of Trustees and for city council candidates in the cities of Bertram, Burnet, Cottonwood Shores, Granite Shoals and Meadowlakes.

Early ballots for any election may be cast weekdays through May 2 at either the the Burnet County Courthouse Annex, 810 Steve Hawkins Parkway or the Burnet County Courthouse 220 South Pierce Street in Burnet.

The weekday hours will be from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., except for April 27 and May 1, when hours will be 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
