Let's talk...Women 2 Women is a women's health conference taking place Saturday, March 12, and organizers are asking for a call in advance to reserve a sandwich lunch to round out visits to the event from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The fun, educational meeting with people who provide services for women throughout this area will include subjects such as heart attack in women, vaccines for adults, incontinence and dealing with abuse and introduce the participants to Use It Or Lose It Exercise, healthy eating habits and how to get the most out of 15-minute meetings with their doctors.

A record number of voters cast ballots in the March 1 Party Primary Election, a process that will be repeated for the eight candidates in four county runoff races.

“The turnout beat the 2008 primary, which was the biggest we know of,” said Doug Ferguson, Burnet County elections administrator. “The total was 11,751 of about 27,000 registered voters.”

NOTE: The following results are for how BURNET COUNTY voters cast their ballots. They may or may not line up with state outcomes. For a graphic that shows how county and state results compared, see Friday's edition of The Highlander.

After all the polling locations closed Super Tuesday evening, March 1, and the votes were tallied, it became apparent that Burnet County voters mirrored the rest of Texas in favoring Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz over Donald J. Trump, 4,026 votes to 3,145.

In locally-contested races, there were many clear-cut winners, as well as several expected runoff situations (if the top candidates did not gather at least 50.1% or more of the votes for that position):

Today is Primary Election Day and the polls are open until 7 p.m. 

More than 2,000 Burnet County residents voted during early voting but today is one more chance to weigh in on Republican and Democratic candidates in national and state races in the November election.

Barring a run-off, county offices will be decided today, as candidates for the local offices all filed as Republicans.

Polling places for Burnet County today are listed by voting precinct, not county commissioner precincts: 

·         Precinct 1 — First Lutheran Church, 133 Apollo Drive, Burnet

·         Precinct 2 — Burnet County Courthouse, 220 South Pierce, Burnet

·         Precinct 3 — Grace United Methodist Church, 4007 Valley View, Granite Shoals

·         Precinct 4 — Spicewood Community Center, 7901 County Road 404, Spicewood

·         Precinct 5 — Silver Creek Community Center, 101 County Road 128, Silver Creek

The 5th Annual Girls Night Out, benefitting the services for women of Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center and Open Door Recover House, will be a Mad Hatter pajama party this year.

Set for March 5 from 6:30-11 p.m. at Lakeside Pavilion in Marble Falls, the event welcomes guests (over age 21) to come in PJs or loungewear to indulge themselves in facials, massages, manicures and other joys of the female set. Individual tickets for eight of those indulgences are $50 each, or $40 each for groups of five or more. An event dubbed the “Thank you for Everything Pancake Breakfast!” has been scheduled for 8 a.m.-10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Political candidates in every race from Texas Senate District 24 and Texas House District 20 to local races have been invited to meet and greet constituents at the event sponsored by Burnet County Emergency Service District #6 and the Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Department (MFAVFD).

“This is a free breakfast, just to say thank you,” said Nancy Hansen, president of the board of directors of ESD #6. “We hope it can be an annual event.”
