From water and infrastructure provisions to public health and safety response, an upcoming Marble Falls Town Hall Meeting will examine the municipality's response and community's recovery in the wake of the October flood event.

The Town Hall Meeting is scheduled for 6 pm. on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at the Marble Falls Public Safety Facility (police station/municipal court building), 606 Avenue N in Marble Falls.

“We'll discuss the incident, the response and the recovery,” Assistant City Manager Caleb Kraenzel said. “How did the city do? What feedback? How we can do better?”

On Oct. 16, flood waters from the Llano River rushed into the Highland Lakes submerging lakeside homes and damaging private property as well as some public roadways and city infrastructure. Along with the city of Marble Falls, community's impacted by flood waters included Cottonwood Shores, Granite Shoals, Horseshoe Bay and Kingsland.

The city of Marble Falls has announced deadline for applicants for a vacated city council seat and committee and board positions.

Residents have until Dec. 31 to submit their application to fill the seat recently vacated by Marble Falls City Council member Megan Klaeger Ruff.

The Council will consider candidates and appoint a new member to fill the unexpired term of Place 6 at their January 15, 2019 regular council meeting.

Applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31 at city hall, 800 Third St.

The new council member will serve until the May 2019 election and is eligible to run for the position.

The council is comprised of seven members who are elected for two-year terms.

To be eligible to apply, candidates must be a registered voter of the city, 21 years of age or over, a U.S. citizen and have been a resident of the city for one year.

With an eye on utilizing various entities to pay off the debt, Marble Falls city officials moved closer Aug. 7 to issuing a proposed $6.35 million bond issue to fund a portion of the first phase of a multi-faceted parks improvement project as well as downtown area improvements and utility upgrades.

When the announcement came that contract negotiations for LakeFest 2018 had fallen through, speculation was rampant.

The announcements from the Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber and the City of Marble Falls were straightforward: “It boiled down to being a business decision.”

That didn't stop people wondering if it boiled down to city parks and recreation construction and related boat ramp changes or the development of the hotel conference center.

For an answer, we turned to Ken Dollar of Meadowlakes, the face of the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Races from 2009 until the first of 2018.

“Development never came into the picture,” he said. “I want to get that across.”

“It was a simple thing,” he continued. “Last year the Lucas corporation people decided it was time to take a look and restructure, not just drag boats, but all their motor sports series; and they own several.
