Nothing brings out the artist in folks like Christmas and visitors to First Friday Art Walk on Marble Falls Main Street Friday, Dec. 1, are bound to find inspiration for their own holiday expression.

The event goes on from 5-8 p.m. as visitors stroll through stores open late and offering refreshments and entertainment.

There will be art, of course. The city's three galleries—Marta Stafford Fire Art at 200 Main Street, Galleries at Pecan Creek at 309 Main Street and the Highland Art Guild Gallery at 310 Main Street—are devoted to it. But many shops up and down the boulevard offer paintings and prints, jewelry and fashions and furniture and accessories, all created by artisans.

Would you know this artistic icon if you met on the street today? It is Vincent Van Gogh in an 1889 self portrait found in the National Gallery of Art. But tonight Highland Art Guild members portraying famous artists or their subjects will be strolling Marble Falls Main Street during the First Friday Art Walk, 5-8 p.m., tonight, Friday, Nov. 3.

Do your artistic dreams include meeting one of the “Old Masters” face to face? Tonight is your opportunity.

Friday, Nov. 3, is another Marble Falls First Friday Art Walk and artists of the Highland Arts Guild Gallery will greet visitors to their Fall Show & Sale Preview as the masters and their subjects from artistic annals.

Tour the gallery at 318 Main Street with the likes of Rosie the Riveter, Vincent Willem van Gogh, Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa or Johannes Vermeer's Girl with the Pearl Earring. Or, meet them along Main Street when they take a stroll. But look closely to identify them, you may find they are keeping up with the times and fashion.

In addition to new art, visitors can enjoy refreshments while browsing extra works of art, a Christmas gift table and a red tag sale on some of the artist's gallery pieces.

Shops and galleries on Marble Falls Main Street will host First Friday Art Walk Friday, Aug. 4, and, on the same night, a winner is to be chosen in logo contest organizers are sponsoring.

Even visitors on a getaway weekend for Highland Lakes fun in the sun can appreciate stepping out of the heat 5-8 p.m. to enjoy refreshments and seeing something new. The town has three galleries devoted strictly to art—Galleries on Pecan Creek in Old Oak Square, Marta Stafford Fine Art and the Highland Arts Guild Gallery—but art and handmade items line the walls of downtown gift stores staying open late as well.

“Some people were surprised to find so much art,” said Ruth Peterson, proprietor of Trendz at 203 Main Street. “We served refreshments for the first two events and we will again Aug. 4.”

Marble Falls will see its first-ever art walk Friday, June 2. The First Friday Art Walk will take place on historic Main Street from 5-8 p.m. to continue through September.

The idea is an opportunity to take an evening stroll through galleries to enjoy their hospitality and refreshments, but in Marble Falls it seems most of downtown was ready to join in.

“Most of the shops in Old Oak Square will be open and other up and down Main Street will be open late,” said Debbie Heatley, who opened Galleries on Pecan Creek in the square in November and now has 28 area artists on exhibit.

Across the way at 318 Main Street, Highland Lakes Art Guild Gallery will be open to exhibit the works of its members.

A mainstay of art, not only from Texas but from all over the country, is Marta Stafford Fine Art at 200 Main Street.
