Kingsland man, guilty of Indecency with a Child

Article Image Alt Text

A Kingsland man has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for Indecency with a Child.

On April 12, Robert Corporon was found guilty of two counts of Indecency with a Child. His punishment was assessed at 12 years on one count, and 15 years on the other.

After presiding over the trial and hearing all the evidence, 424th District Judge Evan Stubbs “stacked” the punishment for sentences to run consecutively. The punishment range for each count was between 2 years to 20 years in prison.

The victim in the case was an eight-year-old girl from Colorado, who was visiting her family at the Corporon residence in Kingsland in the summer of 2016.

According to a summary from District Attorney Sonny McAfee, the girl told her mother had been “putting his hands in her pants” while she was getting ready for bed. The girl’s mother immediately contacted law enforcement and an investigation was conducted.

As Hurricane Harvey made landfall between Port Aransas and Port O'Connor Friday, Aug. 25, it was almost 12 years to the day that a whole congregation began its exodus from New Orleans, La. to find a home at last in Burnet County.

“We know what they are facing and we dedicated a portion of the service yesterday to prayer for them,” Claudette Monnet, who shares pastoral duties with her husband Willie L. Monnet, Sr., at Smoking for Jesus Ministry. “We will continue to pray for them.

“We have been checking on people we know and waiting to hear if anyone needs us.”

That is the measure county emergency personnel have been taking.

There's a job opportunity in Llano County that everyone's buzzing about.

Patrons at the Kingsland Library, 125 West Polk Street, may have noticed warning tape around much of the entrance area. But, if they haven't looked up into the large oak tree above their heads, the reason for the warning may not be apparent.

Suspended near a hole in the tree is a bee hive.

“We have had honey bees that have come to visit the last few summers,” said Nathtali Renshaw, library manager. “Some patrons are allergic but, as honey bees are endangered, we don't exterminate.”

Renshaw said the library worked with the maintenance department to put up a box to relocate the bees.

“There are pheremones to attract them inside,” she said. “Once they are relocated, they have a job waiting for them at Fain's Honey in Buchanan Dam.”

A Kingsland motel has been declared “uninhabitable” by the Texas State Fire Marshal and tenants have been barred from staying there unless or until repairs have been made.

State and local officials converged on the LBJ Motel at 13813 Ranch to Market Road 1431 about 11 a.m. Monday, June 5, to investigate.

“Essentially there had been a lot of complaints about the motel, about loose wiring and other things,” said Burnet County Sheriff Calvin Boyd on Tuesday. “The state fire marshal said the people there could stay the night, but they had to be out by 8 a.m. this morning.”

The official notice was posted on the door of the motel office at a little after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Archaeology buffs and curiosity seekers have two of the best opportunities in the Highland Lakes to delve into the ancient past of their home ground on Saturday, Oct. 22.

Falls on the Colorado Museum (FOCM) in Marble Falls will bring experts and demonstrations to an event from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, to the old granite schoolhouse at 2001 Broadway Street.

From 1-5 p.m., the Llano Uplift Archaeological Society (LUAS) will hold its annual Archaeology Fair at the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) Nightengale Archaeological Center near Kingsland.

Visitors can bring their own finds of arrowheads and points or pottery for identification to both events or just sit in on information that can be brought to light about them and that is one of the most important features of the Texas Archaeology Month events.
