When Eddie Schlegelmilch joined his daughter, future son-in-law and grandson for a morning at the Kiwanis Club Main Street Car Show in Marble Falls, he probably simply expected a day out. What his family surprised him with was a dream come true.

Schlegelmilch, a cancer patient, has been in hospice care in Kingsland for the last six months. His daughter Sara Schlegelmilch and her fiance Jay Reichert moved to Marble Falls to be nearer to him.

On the morning of Saturday, Oct. 1, Eddie's eyes lit up as he scanned a row of antique cars, and saw his own burgundy 1931 Ford Model A.

“We stole it and put it in the car show,” Reichert said. “He had been restoring it for over 15 years… He tried a lot on his own and came a long way until the engine went out.”

Two injured in Saturday motorcycle crash

by Alexandria Randolph

A man and a child were taken to an Austin area hospital following a motorcycle collision in Kingsland Friday.

Texas DPS Troopers said a man and a five-year-old were both injured after the man's Harley Davidson motorcycle collided with a Ford Expedition on Ranch to Market Road 1431 near the County Road 127 intersection on Friday afternoon, Aug. 26, at about 3 p.m.

Trooper Kevin Henneke said the collision occurred when a vehicle slowed in the outside, westbound lane to make a right turn on CR 127 (Caldwell Boulevard), a second vehicle stopped behind it, leading to a chain reaction.

“The driver of the Expedition had to slam on his brakes to avoid colliding with the car ahead of him, and the motorcyclist rear-ended the expedition,” Henneke said.

Kingsland man dies in US 281 crash

A Kingsland man was killed in an accident July 27 on US 281 near Blanco when his SUV collided with an 18-wheeler and a pickup last week, according to published reports.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officials said Clifton Vancura, 50, was driving a SUV northbound on US 281 north of Blanco at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, when he sideswiped a semi-truck heading south after Vancura's vehicle drifted over the center line.

Vancura's then struck a pickup truck also heading south near the intersection of Brushy Top Trail, about four miles north of Blanco. The drivers of the other two vehicles were treated at the scene and released.

DPS troopers are investigating why Vancura went into the other lane. Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash, according to reports.
