As Marble Falls Independent School District Superintendent Chris Allen explains, giving students an opportunity for an up-close look at their chosen field – if only for a day – can prove to be an invaluable and potentially life-changing experience.

“These experiences confirm occupational goals for students and inspire continued efforts toward the educational attainment needed for success in those fields,” Allen said. “If the student has an experience which discourages him or her, this allows the student to consider other pursuits earlier in the course of their educational path.” . . .

Marble Falls will observe the 18^th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and United Airlines Flight 93 with a Day of Remembrance this Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Veterans Day again will be celebrated by Falls on the Colorado Museum (FOCM) in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Marble Falls but a month-long exhibit honoring veterans is opening at the museum at 2001 Broadway Street.

At the Veterans Day program at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, the warhorse Reckless and the Bluebonnet Chorale will return to add to the recognition of all U.S. military veterans.

Marine Staff Sgt. Reckless' proxy, Dixie, commemorates one of the greatest Marine heroes of the Korean War. The original Sgt. Reckless was a chestnut horse that carried needed ammunition to the Fifth Marines during a five-day battle.

The Falls on the Colorado Museum and the Marble Falls Rotary Club are inviting the public to their annual Veterans Day Ceremony, at 11:30 a.m., today, Nov. 11, at The Falls on the Colorado Museum, 2001 Broadway Street,, Marble Falls.

It will be one of several observences of all the members of the U.S. armed services Friday. Another youth-led program will be held from 9-10 a.m. in the chapel of Faith Academy, 3151 East Ranch to Market Road 1431.

Since Nov. 11, 2008, the Marble Falls Rotary Club has hosted an annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony honoring armed service veterans, and for the last two years, The Falls of the Colorado Museum has observed one. This year, the have joined forces to honor the armed forces.

The Invocation will be by Jason Cullison, a U.S. Army veteran deployed in Iraq in 2004-05. The Bluebonnet Chorale Choir will provide music and the colors will be posted by Marble Falls Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10376.

The 15th Annual 9/11 Day of Remembrance Ceremony of the Rotary Club of Marble Falls was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at Lakeside Park.

Mayor John Packer read the proclamation that followed the national designation of the day as Patriots Day and Burnet County Judge James Oakley, a proclamation of the State of Texas designation of 9/11 as First Responders Day. Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10376 posted the colors and, as the flag was lowered to half staff, Marble Falls Fire Chief Russell Sander performed the 200-year-old "Ringing of the Bell" ceremony--three times repeating the sounding of a bell three times for fallen firefighters.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attacks carried out against our nation on September 11, 2001.

With support of the mayor and city council of the City of Marble Falls, the Marble Falls Rotary Club holds a ceremony each year on September 11th, for personal reflection, prayer and thought in remembrance of the victims and their families and rescue workers involved in the 9/11 tragedies, and to honor, remember and reunite with the first responders or this area.
