Few journalists have credentials as impressive as NBC sportscasting legend Bob Costas, so when the 66-year-old New York native speaks about the current state of news media and sports — as he did Monday at the University of Texas at Austin — people listen.

Costas was at the Moody College of Communications' Belo Center for New Media to give the ninth annual Frank Deford Lecture in Sports Journalism to a capacity crowd of students, staff and the public. I was privileged to have the opportunity not only to attend the lecture, but to ask Costas a question of my own and to speak with him briefly afterwards.

Costas — the only person to have ever won Emmys in news, sports and entertainment — told UT students and staff that he was “impressed by the facilities, by the faculty members I've met and by the students I've met” during his visit to the Forty Acres.

A financial gift from a benefactor will help Faith Academy begin the first phase of the school’s athletic complex project.

A gift from Ray and Rebeca Britton of Horseshoe Bay will serve as a “cornerstone” lead gift that will fund the first phase of the $5.9 million athletic complex expansion program.

“We are overwhelmed with joy and gratitude for Ray and Rebeca sharing their resources and making such a significant investment in Christian education for our community,” said Stuart Nunnally, Faith Academy trustee and board chairman.

An exhibit of sports and school memorabilia is being featured in the Madolyn Frasier Room of the Falls on the Colorado Museum to coincide with the Marble Falls Homecoming and Ex-Students Association Reunion next week.

This week is Marble Falls High School Homecoming week and the Marble Falls Ex-Students Association All School Reunion is set for Saturday, Sept. 30.

The Falls on the Colorado Museum (FOCM), located in the Old Granite School in Marble Falls, has special exhibits in place in the Madolyn Frasier Room to remind former students of their days at Marble Falls High School.

“Museum volunteers have scoured museum archives for old pictures to display,” said museum board chair Darlene Oostermeyer. “In addition, former athletes and coaches have responded to our requests to display their personal sports memorabilia.”

Oostermeyer said that additional items for the Marble Falls Sports Exhibit arrive every week at the museum. The Sports Exhibit will be on display until the end of October.
