After a contentious day of discussion, the Texas House of Representatives on Tuesday, April 30, approved Senate Bill 2, which leaders of both chambers are calling a victory for tax reform and limited property tax growth. House members then finalized their vote on Wednesday, May 1.

Two measures passed without much fanfare at Tuesday's Burnet County Commissioners Court could help bring greater efficiency to the county auditor's office.

The city of Marble Falls declared April Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month, during their April 2 regular meeting. Members of entities which provide resources offered the latest figures, programs and efforts to protect children. A project to restore the static airplane display at Burnet Municipal Airport got a big boost Tuesday, March 27, when the Burnet County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to fund $40,000 of the project through unclaimed Pedernales Electric Cooperative capital credits.

UPDATE: Burnet Police Department has identified the officer involved in the shooting as Patrol Sergeant Russell Butler. Butler was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. He has been with the police department for three years and was just recently promoted to patrol sergeant, according to a Burnet PD statement released on March 29.

Burnet County commissioners expressed their concern Wednesday that reclassification of Texas 29 from US 281 in Burnet west to Ranch Road 2341 would make it harder to fund any future improvements to the highway.

Burnet County has a new county auditor and purchasing agent after 33rd District Judge Allan Garrett and 424th District Judge Evan Stubbs appointed Karin A. Smith to the position, effective Feb. 4.
