Sales tax revenue for the city of Marble Falls hit an all-time single-month high as the city received an $838,756.75 allocation from the state of Texas.

Rough terrain and rocky hill sides challenged fire crews to douse a nearly 60-acre blaze Sept. 8 in the Spring Creek Hills subdivision, about five miles west of Burnet, officials said.

Marble Falls Area VFD firefighters have battled back a number of wildland brush and roadside grass fires in recent weeks, which have taken a toll on equipment and resources, as the fire danger continues to mount during the height of the summer months.

Triple-digit temperatures, lack of rain, low humidity and dry “overgrown fuels” prompted bans on outdoor burning in Burnet, Llano and Blanco counties.

A local prosecutor has received a top award for his work in high-profile investigations involving Texas Parks and Wildlife.

The state entity recognized District Attorney Wiley “Sonny” McAfee by naming him winner of the 2019 TPWD Prosecutor of the Year Award, “for his work prosecuting natural and cultural resource violations and environmental crimes in the state.”

McAfee is the district attorney for the 33rd/424th Judicial District which encompass Blanco, Burnet, Llano and San Saba Counties.

Dove season begins on Sept. 1 for the central zone which includes Llano and Burnet County.

The season extends through Nov. 3, then starts again on Dec. 20 through Jan. 14, 2020. Statewide falconry hunting season is Nov. 16 through Dec. 2.

Legal shooting hours are from one-half hour before sunrise until sunset. Bag limits for the central zone are 15 birds daily, no more than two white-tipped daily aggregate and three times daily bag possession limit.

As a child, I could not understand how anyone could consider eating anything Rare, Raw, Marinated or Spicy.

A young palate might describe those “adult” cooking features as – Bloody, Bloodier, Slimy or Murder-mouth.

As an adult with a more mature palate, I find myself craving such foods, but all too often my tummy has determined the more exotic the meal the more I need to temper food portions.

Two weekend grass fires in Burnet County, including one near Bertram which required Texas Forest Service assistance, have local fire departments reminding residents there is a burn ban in place for a very good reason.
