An auto-pedestrian collision prompted authorities to remind witnesses to report incidents and possible crimes at the scene to help those involved obtain medical care in a timely manner and assist in unraveling clues in subsequent investigations.

Continued closures of Burnet County highways and roads due to railway activity the past several days has left Burnet County officials feeling “sidetracked.”

It has even prompted Burnet County Judge James Oakley to ask Austin Western Railroad officials for a sitdown at the next Commissioners Court meeting on Tuesday, July 24, to see what can be done to get the two sides back on the right track.

Meanwhile, Austin Western Railroad officials on Thursday apologized for the delays motorists and first responders experienced and explained what caused them.

Another snakebite victim was reported in the Highland Lakes area Sunday, March 18.

The call for aid for a woman on Happy Hollow Road in the Fairland area who had been bitten on the foot came in to the Burnet County Sheriff's Department at 12:42 p.m.

The Marble Falls Area Emergency Medical Service (MFAEMS) could confirm only that the female patient was transported directly to Baylor Scott & White Marble Falls, where treatment was begun. She was transferred to Baylor Scott & White Temple for continued care.

“At the time of our transport to Temple, the patient was in stable condition,” said Kevin Naumann, MFAEMS operations director.

Demolition of the old Marble Falls H-E-B Store began Wednesday, March 14, but before it went under the wrecking ball, the landmark store since 1966 provided one more service to its community.

It was stormed Monday by 34 local firefighters in practice drills seldom available anywhere.

“I have been in this business 32 years and have never had an opportunity like this,” said Marble Falls Fire Rescue Chief Russell Sander. “It is not just every day firemen can see a sprinkler system activated in a building over 75,000 square feet, perform forcible entry into locked or damaged roll-up doors or breach cinder block walls on an actual building.”

The annual fall fish fry fundraiser for the Marble Falls Area Emergency Medical Service (MFAEMS) will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the Blue Bonnet Cafe.

Twice a year for at least the last 25 years, owners of the historic eatery at 211 US 281 have opened their doors and their kitchen to supporters of the local EMS.

For $10 per adult and $4 per child younger than 5, fried fish and the fixings are available inside the restaurant or for take out. For orders to go, call 830-693-2444.

Staff of the EMS, local first responders and elected officials volunteer their time to wait tables and help keep food moving along. All profits are directed to the training and equipment needs of the MFAEMS.
