Marble Falls High School

There was no hiding from shadows for Marble Falls High School (MFHS) students on Groundhog Day this year.

The Marble Falls Construction Trades Program was one of only two school programs in Texas, and 10 nationwide, to participate in the Toll Brothers Builders National Groundhog Day Job Shadowing event.

MFHS students traveled to the 2,100 acre Travisso master-planned community in neighboring Leander to explore all of the career trade opportunities available in the building industry.

The Toll Brothers’ mentoring event was designed to showcase to students the number of different in-demand careers that are available to students trained in workforce ready programs.

The curtain will go up tonight, Friday, Dec. 9, on the inaugural Thespian Showcase, an introduction to the Marble Falls High School Theatre Department.

The free public event will begin at 7 p.m. in the MFHS Auditorium, 2101 Mustang Drive.

Actors' National Qualifying performances will be presented and those who attend will have the opportunity to speak to the technical theater contestants and view their designs in the auditorium lobby.

After National Qualifying group and duet scenes, the play marathon show “Tribes”, by Nina Raine will be presented without intermission.

MFHS thespians competed in the Texas Thespian Festival last weekend in Dallas. Every student in attendance participated in either group design events, individual events or the performance of the play, “Tribes.”

Marble Falls funneled the ball inside for most of the night Tuesday in a 39-27 win over the Brownwood Lady Lions at Brownwood.

The trio of Mya McMillian, Aspen Woerner and Aubree Adams combined for 33 of the Lady Mustangs’ points. Molly Myrick, Stefanie Kng and Eileen Neri scored two points each. McMillian led the way with 12 points with Woerner following with 11 and Adams with 10 points.

The Lady Mustangs will face unbeaten Gatesville in the Jarrell Tournament on Friday. Marble Falls also plays Taylor in the Jarrell tournament on Friday.

Garcia led Brownwood with eight points.

The Marble Falls High School Class of 2016 that graduated Saturday, May 28, earned more than $2.4 million in scholarships.

Among those were the full-tuition scholarship presented to William “Liam” Baskin, the valedictorian, and a coveted and elite National Merit Scholarship Program scholarship earned by Wiley Baskin, the salutatorian.

The Marble Falls High School (MFHS) Theatre Department will present something just right for a Mother's Day treat—a light-hearted production, “Almost, Maine,” that is continuing through Sunday, May 8,  at Hill Country Community Theatre.

The play by John Cariani consists of interwoven romantic comedy vignettes set on a cold and moonless winter night in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, residents of Almost are falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways.

While out and about in Marble Falls during the 10th annual Paint the Town celebration this weekend folks will see artists young and old at their easels, perfecting plein air techniques and showing their passion.

The Highland Lakes Creative Arts (HLCA), the nonprofit that is organizing Paint the Town, are ready to promote the arts in the region during a three-day celebration and competition in downtown Marble Falls from Thursday, March 31-Saturday, April 2.

Students from Marble Falls Middle School and Marble Falls High School have been preparing for weeks to show their skills to community members.

Theater students, on both technical and thespian sides, are used to challenges; in addition to keeping theater fun, challenges can mean greater rewards.

Marble Falls High School (MFHS) theater teacher Jon Clark knew any Arthur Miller drama would be a good learning experience for students.

"It's been challenging from an acting standpoint, and from the technical side, so it's been really intense in a short amount of time,” Clark said. “I hope what we’re doing is something pretty cool and good theater."

The dance teams that represent Marble Falls High School, the varsity Starlettes and Junior Varsity Stars, each gathered awards at two recent competitions.

The teams are now holding auditions ahead of their season that starts in July with learning dance routines to perform with the MFHS Mustang Band, football routines and pep rally dances, said Cristi Gilpin, dance teacher and director of the Starlettes and JV Stars.

At the Crowd Pleasers Showcase on Feb. 20, the JV Stars won Super Sweepstakes, Best in Contemporary, Jazz and Military and first runner-up overall.

Their varsity counterparts, the Starlettes, likewise won top awards, bringing home: Super Sweepstakes, Best in Contemporary and first runner-up in Lyrical.
