Police: Warrant suspect injures Marble Falls officer

A Marble Falls police officer was treated for injuries Sept. 20 after during the arrest of a suspect, wanted on a warrant charge, in the HEB grocery store.

The incident happened around 11 a.m. at the store, 1503 FM 1431.

While in the store, a Marble Falls police officer came into contact with a male suspect inside the store, according to the MFPD press release. The suspect attempted to flee.

Marble Falls Animal Control Officer Jacey Ferguson responded recently to a report involving a stray dog roaming a neighborhood. The community is on extra alert due to a report of a rabid gray fox which chased and bit a woman in her yard.

The city of Marble Falls has hired a contractor to trap and rabies test wild gray foxes near a neighborhood where a woman was attacked and bit by the creature, prompting a public alert.

The federal contractor, who lives in the Hill Country area, was scheduled to start trapping Sept. 13 in a rugged and wooded area adjacent to the 400 and 500 blocks of Avenue B and the 300 block of Sixth Street in Marble Falls.

A Marble Falls woman bitten by a rabid fox prompted Marble Falls Police Department's Animal Control Officer Jacey Ferguson to descend on neighborhoods to encourage residents to update pet vaccinations and beware of potential rabid wildlife.

A Marble Falls resident is undergoing rabies post-exposure treatments after being bit by a fox Sept. 4 that came into her yard and attacked a three-month-old puppy, officials said. The fox tested positive for the rabies virus, which also prompted a public alert.

“She does have bites. It's considered an exposure,” Marble Falls Animal Control Officer Jacey Ferguson said.

Marble Falls police investigate report of mountain lion sighting

Marble Falls police officials are sending out an alert to residents about a possible mountain lion sighting May 8 near two churches within the city limits, according to a press release.

“[We] received an unconfirmed report of a possible mountain lion sighting in the wooded area east of 400 Avenue N,” the release stated.

A person reported to police that they spotted what they believed to be a mountain lion, also known as a puma or cougar,  in the early morning hours that day.

“Although this is an unconfirmed event, we want to notify residents in the area so that they may take proper precautions regarding children and pets,” an MFPD spokesperson stated in the release.

The agency contacted Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, which offered the following safety tips in the event a predator is lurking in the neighborhood:

• Keep children and pets inside from dusk to dawn;
