The Falls Republican Women Club met on May 24 at the Hidden Falls Restaurant in Meadowlakes. Club president Gayln Woerner opened the meeting with a report on the Texas State Republican Party Convention.

"I'm a better person now that I've experienced that political process first-hand," said Woerner. "I'd like to see this club double in membership so that we can better educate our community on that process."

Woerner then introduced the featured guest speaker, Denise Ferguson.

Marble Falls Middle School held induction ceremonies for the Junior Honor Society on Tuesday, May 17.

They included 8th graders being recognized for three years in the JHS: Ben Anderson, Ethan Crouse, Lillian Czimskey, Cole Gelinas, Bailey Kelleyk, Evan Kroese, Madison Lewis, Aislin Magee, Emily Moomaw, Colby Person, Evan Pool, Kenadee Stewart and Kendall Ulbricht.

Second year JHS 8th graders were: McKinley Birdwell, Natalie Cox, Ethan Cremona, Warren Cuplin, Briana Eaton, Adriana Garza, Ellie Herrington, Jake Levert, Enrique Loredo, Jesus Mata, Samuel May, Shelby Miller, Samantha Nesrsta, Monserrath Otero Vazquez, Hannah Sizenbach, Jessie Smythe, Jesse Stephenson, Rylie Ulbricht and Joshua Whitecotton.

MayFest 2016 is underway through Saturday, May 14, with carnival rides, family fun and music in historic Johnson Park in Marble Falls.

Local music favorite Rey Avila y Sus Legitimos Norte will perform for their third year at the MayFest street dance at 8 p.m. Friday, May 13. The band has a large following for its Tejano and conjunto music and admission to the dance is free.

Colt Elementary School Garden Club students celebrated Arbor Day on April 29 by planting trees on their campus at the end of Manzano Mile in Marble Falls.

They planted three new trees with the help of Home Depot. One was dedicated to Principal Keith Powell who will retire from the Marble Falls Independent School District this year.

Whether shopping for a Mother's Day gift or indulging Mom in an outing, Marble Falls Main Street Market Day will be going on 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, May 7.

More than 100 craft and food booths will line Main Street and downtown merchants will be offering specials for Mother's Day shoppers. And, branch out--Marble Falls is full of specialty stores and shops with unique gifts and something special to wear. Salem's, Madlyn's and Blair's along US 281 have specials on their fashions.

Five area students were awarded 2016-2017 Texas A&M University Scholarships at the April 21 Highland Lakes A&M Club Muster ceremony at Quail Point in Horseshoe Bay.

They were Sarah Fauline Nelson and Samantha Bailey Offutt of Marble Falls High School, James Jarrett Haydon and Mattilyn Collen Schuessler of Faith Academy and Madison Noel Hall of Burnet High School.

Burnet and Llano counties are not in the target area for the worst weather this week, but stay alert if you are traveling north.

The National Weather Service issued a weather alert that is not leaving us out of the large hail and isolated strong storm threat.

Today, Monday April 25, we can expect to hit near 90 degrees and most likely tomorrow, to share a few of the showers.

At the Granite Shoals 50th Year Bash, runners began signing in at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 23, and took to the Leo Manazano Hike Bike and Run Trail with its Olympic silver medalist namesake at 9 a.m. By mid-day an estimated 2,000 visitors were coming and going among exhibits, games and musical performances.

The Highland Lakes Elementary School (HLES) Choir performed at opening ceremonies that ended with a 10 a.m. release of hundreds of ballons in the city's signature green and blue colors. Art of HLES student art created the appearance of stained glass in city hall windows.
