Events

The elected officials of Granite Shoals include a council of six led by Mayor Carl Brugger and they follow a long line of unpaid citizens that have guided the city through its 50-year history.
They are Mayor Pro Tem Shirley King, Eric Tanner, Tom Dillard, Mark Morren and Anita Hisey.
Five of the citizens who have held the title of Mayor of Granite Shoals live in the city today.
They are the current mayor, Carl Brugger, elected in 2015; Dennis Maier, elected in 2011 and 2013; Frank Reilly, elected in  2005, 2007 and 2009 and Pat Crochet, elected in 1999 and appointed in 2004. Crochet did not finish that last term and  King served as mayor in the interim.
First to last, they came to serve the city first through volunteer service on committees, commissions or advisory groups.

The entire staff of the City of Granite Shoals has worked toward the 50th Year Bash that takes place Saturday and Sunday, April 23 and April 24, but Finance Director Wendy Gholson has been the staff lisison to the 50th Anniversary Committee, and responsible particularly for coordinating more than 40 booths of crafts and food for the event.

She is part of a seven-member administrative staff you will meet at the weekend festivities.

Proclamations were the first order of business for Mayor Carl Brugger at the Tuesday night meeting of the Granite Shoals City Council.

Foremost was proclaiming April 23-24 the 50th Anniversary Weekend for the City of Granite Shoals, an occasion to be marked by a festival welcoming the entire Highland Lakes area in to share in the celebration.

He had high praise and commemorative pins for members of the committee who have planned the 50th Year Bash events underscored in the proclamation:

The Texas Parks & Wildlife Hunter Safety Course will be offered at Inks Lake State Park on Saturday April 16 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Any one born after Sept. 2, 1971, who is older than age 9 and wants to hunt alone in Texas, is required to complete the course.

Hunter Safety is not required to buy a hunting license, but it is required for an individual to hunt alone. Without the course, the young hunter must be accompanied within earshot by a person who is at least 17, who is licensed to hunt in Texas and who has passed hunter education or is exempt (born before Sept. 2, 1971).

Johnson Park will be recognized on the afternoon of April 22 with a Lone Star Legacy Park marker, but event on Sunday, April 17, will be the kind of use that created that legacy: a central gathering place for the City of Marble Falls as early as 1887.

The 5th Annual St. Andrew Picnic in the Park will be held there, as gatherings surely were 130 years ago. The St. Andrew Presbyterian congregation will be joined by Fellowship Baptist Church and Trinity Episcopal Church to host an 11 a.m. worship service in the park amphitheater.

Quilts of all shapes, sizes, colors and patterns will be on display this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 12-13, when the Marble Falls Quilt Club hosts its 5th Biennial Quilt Show at Lakeside Pavilion, 307 Buena Vista in Marble Falls.

“Made in America” is the theme for the to be carried out in some of the 90 quilts on display, but most especially the donation quilt that will help raise funding for the club's programs, among them: scholarships for local high school students, Anti Ouch Pouches for Breast Cancer patients, Threads of Love quilts, Learning with Quilts for school libraries and quilting promotions in the community.
