No need to pack a bag and write sad letters back home to attend summer camp. It is a close as Main Street in Marble Falls.

Registration is still open for Camp Share-a-Story, one in the series of Marble Falls Public Library Summer Camps to be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11.

“Our goal has been to make every summer camp fun while providing something kids age 8-12 can use,” said Misty Smith, youth librarian.

“I will be leading Camp Share-a-Story, but each child will bring a favorite book to share from,” she said. “It will be a little like camping out and sharing stories around the campfire and then, of course, there will be something to eat.”

“Last week, on July 21-22, we held the Geocaching Camp.”

Geocaching instruction was provided by Wendi Lews of the staff of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) Pedernales Falls State Park.

The ever-popular musical “Annie Get Your Gun” has been playing to a packed house since opening Thursday, July 21, at Hill Country Community Theatre in Cottonwood Shores.
Performances continue through July 31, with Thursday-Friday-Saturday performances at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:15 p.m.
Wendy Ferrell is the director of the local production of the fictional account of Annie Oakley, written by Herbert and Dorothy Fields, with music by Irving Berlin.That music has taken on a timeless life in songs such as “There's No Business Like Show Business", "Doin' What Comes Natur'lly", "You Can't Get a Man with a Gun", "They Say It's Wonderful,”  "Anything You Can Do,” and “Sun in the Morning.”

Final call for auditions for an Aug. 20 talent show will be held Saturday, July 23, and auditions of the opening show of the 2016-2017 theater season, "Don't Hug Me" will be held Monday and Tuesday, July 25-26, at Hill Country Community Theater, 4003 West Farm to Market Road 2147.

Saturday talent show auditions Saturday will take place from 1-3 p.m.

It is Volunteer Appreciation Day in Granite Shoals, Tuesday, June 28, and a reception will be held at 5 p.m. at city hall.

“We want to honor all the people who have volunteered for boards and commissions and advisory groups and to honor the passing of former City Council Member Peggy Edwards,” said Mayor Carl Brugger. “So many people helped with the 50th Year Bash. We want to thank them all and everyone is invited to join us in honoring them.”

Light refreshments, cake and punch will be served.

The sleek green Gravity Bomber was a big winner in the Marble Falls Adult Soapbox Derby, sponsored annually by the National Adult Soapbox Derby Association (NASDA).

With Travis Roberts at the helm it was best of the best-of-the-best, first place in the High Octane Division. In the new Giant Slalom Division, Bob Roberts rode the Bomb to first and he teamed with Roberts to take first in the Jamican Bobsled Slalom.

A weekend at the races is a great Father's Day outing for the whole family—especially the Adult Soapbox Derby Races Friday-Sunday, June 17-19, in Marble Falls.
The action begins at 6 p.m. Friday with the Show-N-Shine event and a parade, where visitors can view all the entries and talk to their builders and drivers. By 7 p.m. races are underway down the big Third Street hill.
“Races look cool under the big stadium lights we bring in,” said Racemaster Taylor Smith.  “The races usually go on until about midnight the first night.”
Saturday is the busiest day at the races with vendors lining the street. Anyone can enter the 6th Annual Derby Hat Contest for just $5. The two categories: Traditional and Outrageous!! will be judged by a panel of local fashionistas.

The Texas Hill Country is well known for tasty peaches, so the Pedernales Fire Department (PFD) Auxiliary is having loads of them delivered to the fire station for a fundraiser this summer.

For $50, you can order a case of delicious Texas peaches to pick up in mid-July at the PFD Station No. 1, located at 801 Bee Creek Road in Spicewood. Order the 20-22 pounds, carefully packed, one of the following ways:

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers, inspectors and investigators will begin intensified commercial vehicle inspections through Thursday, June 9, as part of Roadcheck 2016, an annual three-day enforcement effort across North America to increase motor carrier, vehicle, driver and cargo safety and security.

DPS troopers began Tuesday, June 7, to be on the lookout for commercial vehicles, including buses, with serious equipment violations and drivers out of compliance with state and federal requirements.

The Marble Falls High School Class of 2016 that graduated Saturday, May 28, earned more than $2.4 million in scholarships.

Among those were the full-tuition scholarship presented to William “Liam” Baskin, the valedictorian, and a coveted and elite National Merit Scholarship Program scholarship earned by Wiley Baskin, the salutatorian.
