Jimmie Vaughan, of Fabulous Thunderbirds and Austin music scene fame, will play FiestaJAM on Saturday, Oct. 21, but he is icing on the cake of a music festival has grown to four days of Marble Falls Hill Country fun beginning tonight, Thursday, Oct. 19.

Visitors can sample wines from award-winning local vintners, craft beers from regional brewmasters and samples from area chocolatiers, as well as wine seminars and regional foods.

“We have more musicians and more events than ever before,” said event co-founder Robert Linder. “There is literally something for everyone.”

The Marble Falls High School Choir literally is willing to “go to the mattresses” to raise money for their annual choir trip.

The choir will host its third annual Mattress Fundraiser this Saturday, Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Marble Falls High School, 2101 Mustang Drive. Every purchase benefits the MFHS choir, which will travel to New York City for spring break.

In the past two years, the choir has raised $10,400 in just two days and they hope to see similar success with more than $5,000 in sales Saturday.

Saturday, Oct. 21, marks the arrival of the fourth annual Rifles, Racks & Deer Tracks fundraising event, benefitting the Hill Country Children’s Advocacy Center.

October is Earth Science Month, and in keeping with that timeframe, The Falls on the Colorado Museum (FOCM) will host an afternoon with a fossil specialist and three geologists!

Kenny Bader will present a 30-minute program on fossils beginning at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 14. Bader is the Manager of the Osteological Prep Lab a part of the Vertebrate Paleontology Lab in the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin.

At 1:45 p.m., three geologists from the Upper Highland Lakes Nature Center, Frank Caramanica, PhD; Charles Beierle MA, and Billy Hutson BSEE, will give a 30-minute presentation on our local geology. With their presentation, we all will be more educated as to why our town was named MARBLE Falls and not LIMESTONE Falls!

Dixie Land jazz will fill the air in the first four blocks of Marble Falls Main Street as Saturday, Oct. 7, as visitors stroll through best in the classics—cars that is.

It is the day from the 16th Annual Main Street Car Show, put on from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. by the Marble Falls Kiwanis Club.

“Antique cars, new cars, sports cars, pick-ups, hot rods, you name it--we are expecting a wide variety of cars from all over Central Texas,” said Jack D. Sargent, event coordinator. “We invite you to register your own entry or just to mark your calendar and plan to spend some time on Main Street.”

Businesses will be open for shopping and car owners will be on hand to discuss their pride and joy entries in the contest as the live band performs.

The city of Horseshoe Bay will host a Mayor's Citizens Forum at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the Quail Point Community Center, 107 Twilight, Horseshoe Bay.

The forum is being held in response to a Long Range Plan Implementation goal to ensure open and transparent communication between the city and the citizens of Horseshoe Bay. The forum is geared to engage, inform, and educate citizens on topics of interest affecting the Horseshoe Bay community.

A quorum of City Council members may possibly be in attendance, but no action will be taken at this event. Citizens of Horseshoe Bay and the general public are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The 20th Anniversary Celebration of Marble Falls Library at 101 Main Street concludes with a communtiy-wide event--The Big Day--Friday, Oct. 6.

The Big Day, including a performance by the Hill Country Community Band, under the direction of Bo Boshears, will begin a 2 p.m. Friday.

Charles Hundley, former superintendent of the Marble Falls Independent School District, is the featured speaker, but he will not be alone in 20th-year recognition. Area judges and elected officials are expected, as well as, Jerome Rugen of Delineations Inc. to comment on new library renovations.

The entire week is sponsored by Friends of the Marble Falls Library, the nonprofit organization that sponsored the fund drives and man the thrift store that built the old 4th Street Library and the new, and now improved, 101 Main Street facility.

The 20th Anniversary celebration of the Marble Falls Public Library at its 101 Main Street Home is underway and the big finale is Friday.

The 69 years of the institution's history, the new library, its programs and latest renovations all are being showcased through Friday, Oct. 6, when “The Big Day” arrives, a community-wide celebration.

Children's Day, Monday, Oct. 2, began festivities with special programs for tots and school kids, featuring a magic shows with Lollipop the Clown.

For Librarians Day today, Tuesday, Oct. 3, librarians current and past will be treated to a luncheon. A tea is planned for all the volunteers and staff of the Marble Falls Library Thrift Store.

Author's Day on Thursday, Oct. 4, will fill the library with favorite Texas authors, there to meet readers and sign their books. A silent auction will be going on as well.

The annual fall fish fry fundraiser for the Marble Falls Area Emergency Medical Service (MFAEMS) will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the Blue Bonnet Cafe.

Twice a year for at least the last 25 years, owners of the historic eatery at 211 US 281 have opened their doors and their kitchen to supporters of the local EMS.

For $10 per adult and $4 per child younger than 5, fried fish and the fixings are available inside the restaurant or for take out. For orders to go, call 830-693-2444.

Staff of the EMS, local first responders and elected officials volunteer their time to wait tables and help keep food moving along. All profits are directed to the training and equipment needs of the MFAEMS.

Anyone driving by the Burnet Community Center next Friday, Oct. 6, might think a major emergency is in progress.

It will be, but it will be a staged event to make sure response to an actual event goes like clockwork.
