Horseshoe Bay City Council votes to allow open and concealed carry in meetings

By Emily Hilley-Sierzchula

In a split vote, Horseshoe Bay City Council members voted Jan. 19 for a motion against signage that would have kept handguns (pistols and revolvers) and long guns (rifles and shotguns) from being carried in council chambers either openly or concealed. Three council members, David Pope, Craig Haydon and Jerry Gray, voted for the motion. Councilman Reagan Lambert was the only nay vote, while Councilwoman Cynthia Clinesmith, Ph.D., abstained.

Since the state’s open carry law became active Jan. 1, local governments and private businesses have the option not to allow open carry on their premises by posting large, state-approved signs written in English and Spanish.

Kingsland Quilt Show brings spirit of community, charity

Article Image Alt Text

By Emily Hilley-Sierzchula

Looking at “Lena’s Sampler,” created by quilter Lena Young when she was 100 years old, prompted a quilter at the 9th annual Kingsland Quilt Show to reflect on the art form.

“You’re never too young or too old to learn to quilt,” said Marge Flowers of Kingsland, Friday, Jan. 16. Flowers, who started quilting when she was in her 30s, is one of around 20 members of the Creative Hearts Quilting Club, most of whom are members of the First Baptist Church in Marble Falls. They spend Tuesdays making creations for charity.

“It feels good to give something to someone, to share love, and to let folks know God loves them,” Flowers said.
