By Alexandria Randolph

A Granite Shoals man was arrested on child sex charges after an outcry was made by a minor.

Richard Edward Davis III, 34, was arrested Friday, March 27 on charge of sexual assault of a child, a second-degree felony, after Granite Shoals Police said an outcry was made by a minor.

“The incident occurred here in Granite Shoals,” said Granite Shoals Public Information Officer Chris Decker. “It happened over a period of time last year.”

Decker said the warrant service that arrived to arrest Davis had a difficult time getting him to leave his residence on Phillip Ranch Road, and Granite Shoals Police Officers were called in for assistance.

Davis left his residence and was arrested without incident. He was booked in Burnet County Jail on Saturday, March 28 and was released the same day on bond of $5,000.

“Skeletal remains” found by utility worker

by Alexandria Randolph

Burnet County Sheriff’s Deputies are awaiting confirmation of cause of death of skeletal remains found west of Burnet on Tuesday morning.

The remains were located by a utility contractor while checking power lines off FM 3509, west of Burnet. Burnet County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the remains on Tuesday morning, March 31, at 11 a.m.

“Deputies confirmed that the remains were that of a human. Due to the level of decomposition to the body, it appears the remains have been there for an extended period of time,” stated a release from the Burnet County Sheriff’s Department.

Justice of the Peace Calvin Boyd pronounced the remains as deceased. The remains are being transported to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.

The cause of death is unknown, the release said, and the sheriff’s department is awaiting autopsy results.

Although riding motorcycles is a big part of the Bikes, Breakfast and Bullets (BBB) event, anyone is welcome, regardless of owning a bike.

By Emily Hilley-Sierzchula

The fourth annual Bikes, Breakfast and Bullets (BBB) event, which benefits the Christian Motorcyclists’ Association (CMA), is roaring into the region Saturday, March 28. The festivities start with a motorcycle ride from Kingsland to a café in Burnet for breakfast. After breakfast, riders continue to Copperhead Creek Shooting Club outside Marble Falls for the main event.

“It’s grown bigger and bigger each year,” said Michael White, CMA chapter vice president, Chariots of the Hills. “We outgrew the private shooting range where it was held for three years.”

White emphasized attendees need not have a motorcycle, or be a CMA member: All are welcome.

“You can attend any portion of the event you like, whether it’s breakfast, going on a motorcycle ride or shooting at the range,” he said, adding that folks should be able to legally own a firearm to participate at the range.

The Castlerock Market & Art Bazaar in Cottonwood Shores is set to open Saturday, March 28, with an eclectic array of vendors.

“We’re expecting a great crowd because the traffic count [along RR 2147] is 10,000 cars a day,” said organizer Mark Love. He started the market last year to meet a demand for goods made by hand with care.

At least 10 vendors have committed to the market, with more showing interest, Love said. Scheduled to set up shop are: Scentsory, Infinite Creations, Pure Holistic Nutrition, Unique Impressions Custom Jewelry, Foxglove Botanicals, Crafty Treasures, Beth’s Infinite Crafts, Kevin’s Homemade Birdhouses and Jerry Wringer Scrap Art.

Members of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Horseshoe Bay are getting ready for their first rummage sale fundraiser this weekend, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, March 27-28.

“People have been bringing in boxes of everything,” said Althea Rowan, Women Working in Communion and Spirit (WICS) member. “Opening each box is a surprise—we have no clue what’s in each one, so it’s been like Christmas.”

Volunteers make sure to open every little box or can because many contain jewelry or other small treasures. Items range in price from 25 cents to a few hundred dollars.

A larger “treasure” to be sold is an original, signed painting by Thomas Kinkade, a painter known as “the Painter of Light.” The painting, worth up to $1,000, was donated anonymously.
