Horseshoe Bay city officials and Property Owners Association representatives expressed frustration with a new state law they say removes the city's authority to set more stringent community building standards.

In 26 years, volunteer and electrician Terry Evans has seen several versions of Walkway of Lights in Lakeside Park on Lake Marble Falls.

“It's changed quite a bit,” said Evans, who has witnessed everything from lighted sculptures washed away in a flood to the display's transition from incandescent to LED lighting.

Vandals have knocked down the Packsaddle Mountain Fight historical monument, seen here on Friday, Oct. 18, just off Texas 71 adjacent to CR 309 in Llano County. The 1936 Texas Centennial marker commemorates the last battle between area settlers and Indians in the region on Packsaddle Mountain in 1873. Over the years, criminals have removed the bronze center star wreath in 2015 and spray-painted a racist message on the marker in 2017 which had to be restored by a contractor for the Texas Historical Commission.

The new Horseshoe Bay fire chief is no stranger to towns which straddle a county line, and no stranger to Horseshoe Bay, either.

Brent Batla was unanimously named the city's next fire chief during the Oct. 15 Horseshoe Bay City Council meeting.

Cottonwood Shores will continue to rely on Horseshoe Bay for wastewater treatment services for the foreseeable future under an agreement reached Tuesday, Oct. 15.

The question of a burn ban wasn’t included on Tuesday’s Llano County Commissioners Court meeting agenda, but that makes little difference in the ban itself. The ban remains in effect until either the court changes it, or County Judge Ron Cunningham declares the need for a burn ban over.

That seems unlikely to happen soon . . . .

Landowners who live on Los Escondidos Street stood toe-to-toe Oct. 15 with Marble Falls City Council members to push back on impending plans to annex the neighborhood, which is primarily a strip of land bordering Lake Marble Falls.

Lower Colorado River Authority officials denied a request from the city of Marble Falls to desilt Lake Marble Falls, adding the waterway was not created for water supply storage nor lake recreation but for flood control and power generation.

LCRA General Manager Phil Wilson responded in a letter dated Oct 10. to a city council-generated request for dredging on the waterway which runs primarily through the south side of the community.
