Elgin Lewis Dodd

August 12, 1944 — May 27, 2019

Mr. Elgin Lewis Dodd of Tow and Fredericksburg passed away on May 27, 2019 at the age of 74 due to complications from an ongoing battle with kidney disease.

Known by many as Lewis, Elgin, Sonny, Lil’ Brother, Red, Uncle Sonny or Uncle Elgin, Grandpa, Mr. Dodd, or simply as Dad, he leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter.

He was born on Aug. 12, 1944 in Buck Hollow, Texas to Edgar Alton Dodd and Lillian Louise Gifford Dodd.

Ronald Ralph Spangenberg, 86, of Meadowlakes, Texas, passed away on July 17, 2019. He was born on Feb. 9, 1933 to Ralph H. and Ruth (Schroeder) Spangenberg in Hawley, Pennsylvania. Ron attended Penn State University on a vocal scholarship and was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity. He was proud to be named the Featured Vocalist for Penn State Dance Band. Ron was a true blue Nittany Lion.

He was born on July 14, 2000 in Austin, Texas. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his stepmother, Vinita Jobes; his half-sister, Juhi Kulkarni; brother, John Dylan Jobes; his grandfathers, Jim Taylor and Harold D Jobes; grandmothers, Helen Jobes and Cheryl Jobes; uncles, Sam Jobes, Joe Stebe, Robert Kosta and David Kosta; aunts, Elise Stebe, Andrea Jobes and Lana Sveda; his dog, Buddy and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Kay Taylor.

Darvis Andrew Deskins 

January 21, 1935 — July 2, 2019

Darvis Andrew Deskins was born January 21, 1935, in Caddo Mills, Texas, to Frank and Thelma Deskins. He was the youngest of five siblings, who preceded him in death.

Darv graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Science in business administration. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He worked for several companies that led to relocations from Texas to California, back to Texas, then to Michigan, and finally to retire in Meadowlakes, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Glenna, of 61 years; daughter and son-in-law, Allison and David Sava; son, Scott and wife Laura Deskins; four grandsons, Scott Deskins Jr. and wife Mary Catherine, Matthew, William, and Ben; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Charlie, who was Darv's “best buddy.”

Steven Lee Goodmon

March 1, 1935 – July 23, 2019

Steven Lee Goodmon, age 84, passed away July 23, 2019 at his home in Burnet, Texas, following a diagnosis of metastasized esophageal cancer on July 5.

Steve was born in Arrowsmith, Illinois on March 1, 1935 to the late Marvin and Helen Glynn Goodmon.  He lived in Weldon, Illinois and graduated from Deland-Weldon High School in 1953. He attended the University of Illinois in Champaign before joining the US Air Force, where he learned his profession of Air Traffic Control from which he retired in 1989. He was also involved in distributing, publishing and writing Christian books while living in Indianola, Iowa.

David “Dave” Holder

David “Dave” Holder, born on July 4, 1944 in Ashville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2019 at his home in Horseshoe Bay, Texas.  After a courageous battle with cancer, but never missing a beat to put others first, especially his family, Dave is at peace.  

Son of William E. Holder and Rebecca J. Worthen Holder, Dave grew up in Ashville, North Carolina where he learned to play tennis.  This probably set the stage for the love of the game; as a young player Dave was invited to play in Wimbledon and the US Open.

James (Jim) Arthur Peril passed away suddenly due to heart complications on Friday, July 5, 2019 at the age of 52.

There will be a Celebration of Life (including fond memories and stories from attendees) on Friday, July 19 at 10 a.m. at the Arena of Peace Church located at 2254 Old Marble Falls Road in Round Mountain, Texas 78663.
