Linda Dianne Calsyn

Linda Dianne Calsyn, 65, of Marble Falls, passed away Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016.

Linda was bon in Austin to Bill Bailey and LaJuana Bailey Motley on June 28, 1951.

She graduated from Travis High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society.

Her faith in God was strong as was her love and empathy for others.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Nicole Lynn McKee; her brother, Jeffery Motley and her brother-in-law, Randy Calsyn.

She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Kevin Calsyn; her son Andrew Calsyn (Rylen Strassburg); granddaughter, Faith Weatherford; her step-father, Henry Motley and her mother-in-law, Caryl Calsyn; also by her brother-in-law, Keith Calsyn (Alicia), niece Katie Calsyn, nephew, Brandon Calsyn and step-nieces Jennifer May and Yvonna Grant and their families.

Daryl Wayne “Frank” Brown

Daryl Wayne “Frank” Brown, 67, of Kingsland, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 12, 2016 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born June 7, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri to Benjamin Franklin Brown and Ruth Laverne Wise.

As a young man Frank became a successful drafter working in Houston during the oil boom. Then with his young family, He moved to the quiet of the Hill Country and worked as everything from an Austin cab driver to a truck driver.

Frank was an avid motorcyclist and an excellent driver of anything that had wheels.

His travels led him to every state in the US except Alaska.

He was a lover of music and an excellent drummer.

He played in a local gospel band “The Spirit” and passed the talent down to all three of his children whom played drums at Llano High School.

Eloiza Jimenez Reyna, 95, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at her home in Granite Shoals, Texas.
Mrs. Reyna was preceded in death by her husband, Leandro Reyna of Hobbs; son, Leandro Reyna Jr. of Hobbs; daughter, Geneva Rodriguez of Hobbs; parents, Domingo and Rosa Mancha Jimenez of Rock Springs and brothers, Toribio Jimenez of Rock Springs, Mack Jimenez of Brownwood and David Jimenez of Lubbock.
She is survived by her daughters, Connie Riley of Dallas and Emily Nava of Granite Shoals; grandchildren, Michael Reyna, Sammy and Dana Reyna, Vanessa & Raul Ibarra, Eusebio Gonzalez, Christopher Riley, Peter Riley, Joe Riley, Rosie, Lisa and Ruby Reyna; several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ryan Duane Smith

Ryan Duane Smith, 42, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016 at St David’s Hospital in Austin with complications from a recent surgery.

Ryan was born July 10, 1974 in Abilene, Texas.

He was the son of Mickey Kay Smith of Burnet, Texas and Dwayne C. Smith of Leander, Texas. He is survived by his grandmother Katherine Jones of Burnet, Texas and his grandparents, Johnny Bob and Voleta Smith of Winters, Texas. He is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins and has a legacy of many wonderful friends. And let’s not forget his very loved pet Red Dog of Burnet, Texas!

At the time of his passing, Ryan was surrounded with love by about 25 of his close friends.

Mrs. Jo Anne Holtzclaw Dearing

Feb. 23, 1930 ~ July 23, 2016

Mrs. Jo Anne Holtzclaw Dearing, age 86, died on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Country Oaks Assisted Living from a heart ailment.

She was born Feb. 23, 1930 to Mr. William Ethel Holtzclaw, Jr. and the former Miss Clarice Marceile Blackmore in Austin.

Her younger sisters Patricia Marceile and Dale Lynn completed the family.

As Jo Anne lived and died in Texas, so did her parents, grandparents, and all eight of her great-grandparents.

Jo Anne graduated from Austin High School in 1949.

Soon after, she married Mr. Olin Clyde Dearing, Jr. on June 27, 1949 in her Grandmother Hattie Blackmore’s living room in Austin.

Mr. & Mrs. Dearing welcomed daughter Jo Lynn on their second wedding anniversary, and son Olin Clyde III two years later, before accepting a job opportunity in Dallas.

This is where daughters Nancy Lee and Elizabeth Anne were born.

Georgia Alice Vaughn, born Aug. 17, 1930 to Beulah Moore and James Alston in Groesbeck Texas, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016 on her 86th birthday.

Georgia is survived by daughters, Debbie Vaughn of San Antonio, Tammie Vaughn of Granite Shoals, and son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Tami Vaughn of Granite Shoals.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brad Chellete of Granite Shoals, Tonya Wooten and husband Matthew Wooten of Granite Shoals and Trey Vaughn of Cottonwood Shores, two great-grandsons Bradley Wooten and Kanyon Vaughn and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her husband Weldon G. "Bud"Vaughn, her mother and father, two sisters and four brothers.

Graveside service Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, 10 a.m. at Marble Falls City Cemetery.

Victor Cruz Salazar, Sr., of Marble Falls, Texas, passed away Friday, Aug. 12, 2016.

He was born March 23, 1940 in Taylor, Texas to Enrique and Romana Cruz Salazar.

He is survived by his children: Raymond and Joan Salazar, Rosemary and Daniel Leal, Nora and Enrique Flores, Victor Salazar, Jr., Mary and David Leal, Ismeal and Carmen Martinez, Deborah and Marcelo Hernandez, Jackie and Fortino Marquez, brother Adam Salazar, 85 grandkids and five great-grandkids.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Arnolfo Salazar and sister Genoveva Torres.

Victor loved to watch the Dallas Cowboys – he was their biggest fan!

He also loved his porch time and wrestling.

Visitation and Rosary was held on Monday, Aug. 15, 2016 and Funeral Service was held Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Marble Falls, Texas.

Kyle Stephen McAlister, 65, of Kingsland, Texas went to rest in Heaven on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016.

Kyle was born on Sept. 23, 1950 in Big Spring, Texas to George and Lavonia McAlister.

He was preceded in death by his parents George and Lavonia McAlister, and his brother Clint McAlister.

He is survived by his wife Tara McAlister; son Jake and his wife Toffee McAlister of Midland, Texas; son Travis and his wife Ann McAlister of San Antonio; son Kent and his wife Gretchen McAlister of Denver, Colorado; son Taylor Smith of Midland, and son Hunter Smith of Chicago, Illinois.

He is also survived by his four grandchildren Rhodes McAlister, English McAlister, Campbell McAlister, and Wynn McAlister.

He is also survived by his brother Mike McAlister and partner Sandy Roddy of Irving, and his sister Cindy Hillman and her husband Randy of Big Spring, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bertie Rea

Bertie Rea, age 81, passed away around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016.

She was born Bertie Evelyn Barrow on March 5, 1935 and grew up in and around Round Rock and Georgetown, Texas.

Bertie was an amazing cook, gardener, seamstress and crafter.

After nursing her husband Kenneth Rea through a lengthy illness until he preceded her in death in 2013, Bertie began to have health issues of her own.

She was treated for lymphatic cancer and beat it.

However, she never got over the side effects.

Bertie is also preceded in death by her parents, Henderson and Bertie Barrow; two brothers, Jewell and Reese; four sisters, Rena, Gladys, Mary Corse and Mable Johnson.

Survivors include one brother, Arthur Barrow of Florida; four sisters, Severa Heidel, Bess Boyd, Violent Boyd and husband J.T., all of Kingsland, Texas.

Jim Garrett

Jim Garrett

Jim Garrett, a loved and well known lifelong resident of the Marble Falls and Travis Peak communities, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016 at the age of 57 while at home.

Jim was born in Burnet (probably against his will – go Mustangs!) to Mary Lou and Joel Ervin “Erby” Garrett on March 22, 1959.

His sister, Cathy, and brother, Joel, completed the happy family of five.

He attended Marble Falls schools where he was a prominent figure in the FFA and football team. He earned an Associates Degree in Range Management from TSTI in Waco, and a Bachelors Degree in Agriculture from Tarleton State University, where he met his loving wife of 36 years, Deborah Ann Cleveland.

They were married in Stephenville on Aug. 23, 1980.

Upon graduation in Stephenville, he began a long and successful sales career in the agriculture, construction, and building industries in the Central Texas area.
