Lady Mustangs in the thick of battle

The District 25-5A softball race is on.
With three games left in the season, Marble Falls stands in sixth place, a game back of being tied for third place.
Four teams get in.
It looks like it is going to take eight district wins to get in the playoffs.
Marble Falls can reach eight wins by beating Cedar Park and Vandegrift on the road the then closing with a home victory over Georgetown East View.
That’s possible. The Lady Mustangs beat Vandegrift and East View in the first round. They were upset by Cedar Park in the first round, 6-0, opening the door for Cedar Park to gain some momentum.
The Lady Mustangs showed some resiliency Tuesday night with a 3-2 win over Leander to give Marble Falls a 5-6 district mark and snap a three-game losing streak.
No. 8 state-ranked Dripping Springs lost for the first time in district on Tuesday, dropping a 5-2 contest against Vista Ridge.

Metcalf signs with McMurry

Jacob Metcalf was all smiles Thursday at his signing with McMurry.

Jacob Metcalf signed with McMurry University last week to play college football at the Abilene university.

Metcalf was a two-year starter for Marble Falls High School and played several positions, including reciever, kick returner and defensive back.

Metcalf is also a member of the Mustangs track team that will be competing in the District 25-5A meet this week at Vandegrift High School.

Metcalf will also play in this summer's FCA All-Star game in Georgetown. Teh game is Friday June 10 at the GISD Athletic Complex.

Middle school holds district meet

Mustangs fall, 6-0, to Georgetown

Marble Falls managed just three hits and fielding errors plaqued the Mustangs again in a 6-0 loss to Georgetown Friday night at Georgetown.

The Mustangs got a quality start from pitcher Kenny Ulbricht, who allowed six hits, struck out three and walked two.

But the Mustangs' offense produced just three singles. The Mustangs hits were by T.J. Stephenson in the first innking, a single by Cooper Wilson in the second and a two-out bunt hit from Chase Salinas in the third.

Marble Falls drops to 0-6 in district play while Georgetown moved to 6-0 in district.

The Lady Mustangs Friday's game with Vista Ridge was pushed to Saturday because of wet field conditions and will start at 4 p.m. at Marble Falls High School.

The Marble Falls girls' golf team dug itself a big hole on Monday at the District 25-5A golf champinship.

Senior Kelsie Tackitt had the low round for the Lady Mustangs, but the team was back in the middle of the pack heading into Tuesday's second round at the Lakecliff Golf Club in Spicewood.

Marble Falls' softball and baseball teams will play five games over the Spring Break.

The Lady Stangs and Mustangs will both be at home tonight (Tuesday) for District 25-5A games with Georgetown and Vista Ridge, respectively. The girls play at 7 p.m. and the boys at 5 p.m.

For the boys, the Vista Ridge game will be the District 25-5A opener. They go to Vista Ridge on Thursday for a 5 p.m. start.

The girls were shutout, 10-0, in five innings against Dripping Springs on Monday to even their district record to 1-1. Georgetown and Leander are on tap this week.

Dripping Springs game moved to Monday

Marble Falls softball game with Dripping Springs has been moved to Monday because of the wet fields. The JV plays at 3 p.m. followed by the varsity. Both teams won their district opener. Marble Falls knocked off Vista Ridge, 10-6, and Dripping Sproing shut out Cedar Park, 2-0, in March 8 games.

Marble Falls is 8-10 overall.

The Lady Mustangs play Georgetown on Tuesday at Marble Falls and are at Leander on Thursday of next week.

Marble Falls battled No. 10 state-ranked Vandegrift to the wire Tuesday night before losing, 2-1, in District 25-5A soccer action. The Mustangs just missed on a header attempt by Gavina Tinajera with a minute left in the contest for a chance to tie.

Marble Falls remains in fourth place with a regular season finale against Georgetown East View on Friday on the road. Vandegrift and Vista Ridge have clinched playoff spots. Marble Falls, Georgetown, Georgetown East View and Cedar Park all are still alive for the final two playoff spots.

Mustang soccer beats Wolves, 4-0

Christian Ammons had a big night with two goals in the Mustangs' 4-0 win over Cedar Park. Marble Falls swept Cedar Park in boys' soccer this season. In the first meeting, the Mustangs scored with 33 seconds left to win 1-0 at Cedar Park.

Marble Falls' sophomore Christian Ammons, the leading scorer for the season, added two goals Friday night at Mustang Stadium to help propel the Mustangs to a 4-0 victory in soccer.

The Mustangs are currently in fourth place in District 25-5A with two tough games remaining against No. 10 state-ranked Vandegrift on Tuesday and a road game against Georgetown East View on Friday.

"We're still alive,'' head coach Rick Hoover said. "Now we get to play the No. 10 team in the state.''

Dalton Mayberry belted a 3-run triple in the second inning to give Marble Falls a 5-0 lead and the Mustangs went on to notch a 14-5 win over the Miles Bulldogs Friday in the Llano Hill Country Classic baseball tournament.

Marble Falls continues play with a pair of afternoon games, starting at 2 p.m. Saturday.
