Police tased a Granite Shoals man and charged him with attempted capital murder after he allegedly fired gunshots outside and from inside his travel trailer while officers were at his door step, according to a press release from the Granite Shoals Police Department.

The Granite Shoals City Council approved a zoning change for land it annexed into the city last month and corrected the Zoning Ordinance to reflect the accurate maximum height allowance for boat docks on Lake LBJ at their Tuesday, March 26, meeting.

Granite Shoals Firefighters kept a fire at bay which destroyed a $1.3 million lakeside home and threatened at least two other residences on Lake LBJ, investigators reported.

Two men, who were on their way to Llano, survived an emergency landing into an empty lot in Granite Shoals. The incident happened about 1:15 Wednesday, March 6 at the intersection of Hilldale and Baker Street, a few blocks from the community's air strip. Police reported the Granite Shoals men in the single-engine aircraft said shortly after take off they heard what seemed to be engine problems. The refused treatment at the scene. Other than the aircraft, there was no damage to nearby property. The FAA will conduct an investigation.

Thanks to the Granite Shoals Police Department, a local child missing her best friend — a stuffed rabbit named “Bunny” — has a new stuffed animal and new police officer friends.

On Jan. 21, Granite Shoals Police Capt. Chris Decker was contacted via the Granite Shoals Police Department Facebook page by Debra, the mother of Victoria, the little girl who had last seen Bunny in Robin Hood Park in Granite Shoals that day.

Decker notified on-duty officers of the information and relayed a picture of Bunny. Chief Gary Boshears was in the area and searched without success.

Decker placed a picture of Bunny on all of the Granite Shoals Police Department social media forums. In a matter of days the posts had reached more than 21,000 people with more than 367 shares and 160 reactions, just from Facebook.

James D. “Jim” Davant has succeeded Eric Tanner on Place 3 of the Granite Shoals City Council and former council member Merilyn Nations has been chosen for the 2017 John Rinehart Memorial Award for Outstanding Community Service.

Davant was one of four candidates who interviewed in open session of the Council on Oct. 10, to the pleasure of the council, before their choice was made by ballot.

“If we hadn't settled on a procedure, I might recommend we throw a dart at a list,” said Mayor Pro Tem Tom Dillard, referring to the interviews with Davant, Will Skinner, Arturo Rubio and Terry G. Scott.

A Granite Shoals man suspected in an aggravated burglary in Louisiana was taken into custody by a Marble Falls Police officer during an act of kindness this week.

Xavier Tyler Haynes, 18, was arrested on Monday, Oct. 10, after a police officer spotted him walking down the road.

“He was walking in a traffic lane down (Ranch to Market Road) 1431,” said Marble Falls Police Capt. Glen Hanson, when the young man was spotted by Marble Falls Police.

“The officer offered to give him a ride, and asked him where he was going. He said he was on his way to Granite Shoals,” Hanson said.

During the trip, the officer checked Haynes' identification and dispatch reported the young man was wanted by the State of Louisiana on felony charge of aggravated burglary.

According to the Burnet County Jail database the charge was issued following an incident in that state on May 22.
