Merrell Edmond Thurman

Merrell Edmond Thurman, 93, passed away on Dec. 28, 2016 in Georgetown, Texas.

Merrell was a loving father and grandfather and will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Frances Thurman; son, Kenneth Thurman; parents, Amos and Obera Thurman and brother, Eldon Thurman.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ellen Denson and husband Bob of Bertram; son, Damon Thurman and wife Sandy of Leander and son, Gary Thurman and wife Becky of Leander as well as five grand children and fifteen great grandchildren.

A funeral Service was held on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016 at Edgar & Jenkins Family Funeral Home in Burnet with interment at the Marble Falls Cemetery.

Janice Lavern Banks, 53, of Marble Falls, passed away peacefully on the evening of Dec. 23, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Janice was born March 8, 1963, in Kingsland, Texas, the daughter of Warren Conely, Jr. and Fannie Hunter Conely. She grew up in the Marble Falls area, where she attended school. She loved the Hill Country. Her main interest was her family and she enjoyed making people smile. She was an active member of St. Fredricks Baptist Church.

Janice is survived by her son, Kevin Conely and wife Stacey; daughter, Jennifer Greenway and husband Kent, daughter Stephanie Banks and Samantha Banks and son Anthony Ward. She is also survived by four granddaughters and five grandsons as well as her five sisters, Betty, Necole, Sandra, Barbara and Lisa, and four brothers, Warren III, Jeffery, David and Donald.

Madalyn Snider passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, at the age of 83. She was born on April 21, 1933, to Chandace Guess and Aileen Westfall in Joplin, Missouri. The railroad business took her family to the great state of Texas.

She was a graduate of Big Spring High School. In February, 1952 she married the love of her life; T. R. Snider. They had three children. Madalyn worked at car dealerships in Lubbock, Corpus Christi and San Antonio where she was the office manager. Her highest priority was always her family.

Joanne M. Esh, 86, of Marble Falls, passed away Dec. 22, 2016. She was born Sept. 3, 1930, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Henry and Adrianne Schwartz.

She is survived by son Stephen Esh (Kathleen) of Minnesota, daughter Cheryl Esh of Pennsylvania, son Charles Esh (Carol) of Texas, and daughter Susan Spohn (Darron) of Colorado. She is also survived by her sisters Joyce Thrift (Clay) of Arizona, Janice Zimmerman of Washington, Judy Griebler (Jerry) of Florida and Jeanne Palmer of Minnesota. Joanne is also survived by grandkids Charlie, Nathan, Alan, Jason and Jenna as well as three great grandkids.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Darwin Esh, and her parents.

May she walk in heaven with loved ones.

A graveside service was held Thursday, Dec. 29, at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park.

Charles “Chuck” Hewitt, 91, of Marble Falls, Texas, was received into Heaven on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016. He was born on Sept. 5, 1925 in Amite Co., Mississippi, to Robert T. Hewitt and Elna Terrell Hewitt.

After serving in the Navy during WWII, he graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi, where he met his future wife, Oni Fay Minton Hewitt.

The majority of his working career was spent as a multi-state sales representative for Federated Metals (ASARCO) out of Houston, Texas.

Preceding him in death were his parents and loving wife, Oni Fay Minton Hewitt.

“I would like the memory of me to be a happy one. I would like to leave an afterglow of smiles when day is done. I would like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways of happy times and bright sunny days. I would like the tears of those who grieve to dry before a sun of happy memories that I leave behind when day is done.”

Barbara began her life in Catarina, a small south Texas town to which her grandmother moved to pursue life in a new frontier development of mission style architecture and cold artesian wells.

Barbara lived and worked in many places; Catarina, Laredo, Corpus Christi, The Valley, Orange, Delaware, Beaumont, New York City, Houston, Austin, Rockport, Johnson City and finally Marble Falls. With every move her circle of dear and lasting friends grew, and another house was made a home.

Barbara was an exceptional wife, mother, entertainer and an accomplished artist.

Jesse Kenneth Fry

Jesse Kenneth Fry was born Nov. 6, 1924, and died Dec. 8, 2016, at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 2 days. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Nelda DeSpain Fry; four children, Kenneth Michael Fry and wife Pat, Robert and wife Mary, Kay McCoy and husband Clayton and Kerry Williams and husband Bryan. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren with three more great-grandchildren due within the next few months.

Jesse spend most of his childhood in Pleasant Valley, Texas, living a typical country life as a farmer and rancher's son. He was drafted at age 19 into the Army Air Corp where he served for 3 years.

Benjamin E. Kowing, 74, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa, and formerly of Meadowlakes, Texas, died on Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.

The family hosted an open house in Ben’s honor at their home on Monday, Nov. 21. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Helping Center of Marble Falls, Texas. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.

He was born in Lawrence, Kansas, on Sept. 16, 1942, the son of Benjamin and Emma (Howe) Kowing and was a graduate of the University of Kansas. On Sept. 4, 1965, he was united in marriage to Carol Jane Fielding in Winfield, Kansas.

Benjamin was employed as a network engineer, developing and designing computer networks for small business.

He was a Texas Master Naturalist and a Texas Master Gardener.

Eron Lavonia Moore, 93, of Buchanan Dam died peacefully on December 7, 2016.

She was born on June 22, 1923 in Minor Hill, TN. Eron married Gene Moore on May 7, 1950 and they had 4 children: Jim Moore, Bob Moore, Liz Moore LaFont of Volente, Texas, and Susie Moore Jacques of Buchanan Dam, Texas.

Eron and Gene opened their first restaurant in Oak Hill, Texas, moving to the Hill Country in 1968 and opened the Anchor Restaurant in Kingsland and later opened the Fleets Inn Oyster Bar in

Buchanan Dam.

He was preceded in death by Helen Clarice Smith, his wife of 66 years.

He is survived by son Charles Smith and wife Marcia of Dallas, son Michael Smith of Kingsland, Texas, and wife Emily Smith of Pascagoula, Mississippi, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
