Missing boater found in Lake Travis

The body of a Buda man, reported as a missing boater, was found in the water in Lake Travis near the Grelle Recreation Area (pictured here) in Burnet County.

Texas Parks and Wildlife has identified a missing boater found in Lake Travis Jan. 29 near the Grelle Recreation area.

Dispatchers notified game wardens around 11 a.m. of the report and launched a 24-hour search for the person identified as 53-year-old Tommy Eady of Buda.

The search effort included “multiple boats, side-scan sonar and an unmanned aircraft system, along with a K9 unit.

Republicans are busy planning two upcoming events. Organizers along with the Burnet Chamber of Commerce and Burnet Bulletin will be hosting the 2020 Candidate Forum on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Agrilife Extension at 607 N. Vandeveer in Burnet. The Highlander won four awards in the 2018-19 TPA Better Newspaper Contest, finishing fifth overall in its circulation classification.

TxDOT unveils US 281 road work deadlines

As U.S. 281 projects in Burnet and Llano counties continue into the new year, crews are scheduled to launch work in at least two more highly-traveled areas in 2020.

County server falls victim to ransomware attack

Burnet County found itself the victim of a ransomware breach on one of its servers just before Christmas — the latest in a string of attacks on local governments throughout the country since 2013.

“A bug that got into one of our servers caused it to seize up and we had to unplug all of our systems and make sure that breach was isolated,” County Judge James Oakley said …

Burnet County raises cost to house female inmates
