BOPATE collection day posts record intake

Burnet County Commissioners hosted a BOPATE collections event at the county's new recycling center, where they collected a record amount of latex paint products and tires as well as a good portion of used oil products and lead-acid batteries.

Burnet County officials deemed successful a re-use and recycling collection event at a new location due to a wealth of volunteer help and a record intake of old tires and latex paint.

The BOPATE event was held Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Burnet County Recycle/Re-use Facility, 2411 FM 963, just outside Burnet. BOPATE stands for batteries, oil, paint, antifreeze, tires and electronics.

TxDOT tightens rules for highway traffic impact assessments

To keep pace with growth and safety needs, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will require more rigorous assessment of how commercial and private development traffic patterns will impact the roadways.

Within the last decade more than half a dozen aggregate mining-related businesses have developed along the Texas 71 corridor in Burnet County. Along with commercial ventures, a number of private residential developments are carving out their places in amongst mining locations.
