HSB council approves 2019-20 tax rate, utility hike

Horseshoe Bay City Council unanimously adopted a new budget and tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year while also adopting increases in water and sewer rates during a lengthy regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Marble Falls hits record for sales tax

Sales tax revenue for the city of Marble Falls hit an all-time single-month high as the city received an $838,756.75 allocation from the state of Texas.

CWShores debates new fire services contract

Cottonwood Shores sent a proposed contract to the Cottonwood Shores Volunteer Fire Department Thursday, Sept. 5, by the narrowest of margins, with two council members (Gary Parsons and Brigitte Thomas) voting for it, one (Michael Hibdon) voting against it, one (Roger Wayson) abstaining and one (Mayor Pro-tem Cheri Trinidad) absent. Wayson said he abstained because he still didn’t have enough information about the matter.

The Horseshoe Bay Business Alliance (HSBBA) held its Aug. 27 Community Coffee at Arrowhead Bank in Horseshoe Bay, attracting another large gathering of business leaders and residents.

Bittersweet Cakes and Catering provided the morning treats, which included an assortment of mini muffins and a delicious egg, sausage and cheese casserole that really tempted guests to have second helpings.

Judicial conduct board admonishes and orders ethics training for Horseshoe Bay JP

The State Commission on Judicial Conduct ordered a justice of the peace in Horseshoe Bay to take ethics training, after upholding a public admonishment Aug. 7 for her dealings with a woman she accused of having a relationship with the judge's estranged husband.

The state commission concluded that Llano County Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Beatrice “Bebe” Rocha “lent the prestige of her judicial office to advance her own private interests by invoking her judicial position during a telephone conversation . . .”

Marble Falls Area VFD firefighters have battled back a number of wildland brush and roadside grass fires in recent weeks, which have taken a toll on equipment and resources, as the fire danger continues to mount during the height of the summer months.

Triple-digit temperatures, lack of rain, low humidity and dry “overgrown fuels” prompted bans on outdoor burning in Burnet, Llano and Blanco counties.

That was the first thing my then-wife Selina said to me when I answered the phone at my parents' house in Austin on Sunday, Aug. 22, 1993, and if I panicked at the time, it could be excused. My first biological child was due any minute and I might as well have been on another planet because of how far away she was right then.
