MFISD principals detail campus improvement plans

Social and emotional education and academic growth rose to the top of the list of focuses for all principals across Marble Falls Independent School District for the 2019-2020 school year.

The principals presented their individual campus improvement plans to the board of trustees during the regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Marble Falls Independent School District Pre-K students joined together to celebrate Mexican culture on Oct. 10 with a performance of “De Colores” while dressed in traditional garbs. Also, first graders performed a Guatemalan dance to “Yo Le Canto A Guatemala” at the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration which was held at Marble Falls Middle School. Burnet County sales tax revenues continue climb

Sales tax revenue for the city of Marble Falls continued to climb in October as all six taxing municipalities in Burnet County reported growth compared to last year, with four cities (Marble Falls, Burnet, Granite Shoals and Bertram) reporting double digit percentage gains.

Police investigates Marble Falls High School classroom attack

A male juvenile will face a possible assault charge, following an attack on another student, captured on video and shared on social media, according to Marble Falls police. Marble Falls Independent School District officials also responded with a letter to parents and communities addressing the safety of students in the classroom.

The incident was reported the afternoon of Friday, Oct. 4 at the Marble Falls High School campus, 2101 Mustang Drive.

TCEQ mulls three mining permits on US 281

Lhoist North America/Chemical Lime and Oldcastle Materials are two of three mining companies which have recently applied for air quality permits under consideration by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Panel to debate mining impact at forum in Marble Falls

Residents who are supporters and opponents of the growing mining industry in Burnet County are set to come together during a public forum Monday, Oct. 7 in Marble Falls. An upcoming public forum will feature a debate among group representatives at odds over the impact and proliferation of the mining industry in the Hill Country.

The event – sponsored by the Austin American Statesman (AAS) and KVUE TV Austin – is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7 at the Riverbend Conference Center, 708 1st St. in Marble Falls.

Wayward tortoise visits newspaper, seeking home

A sulcata tortoise found his way to the newspaper parking lot Wednesday, Oct. 2. The tortoise was turned over to Marble Falls Police Department's animal control officer until its owner can be located. Call animal control at 830-693-3611 to offer information.

Sulcata tortoises are not indigenous to the Highland Lakes — they are more common to the southern Sahara desert and the savannas of Africa. However, someone forgot to tell that to one beautiful specimen who paid a visit to The Highlander office Wednesday, Oct. 2.
