A $7.3 million road safety improvement project is under way along US 281 from the 2147 East intersection to the Texas 71 intersection. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the project is adding a continuous left-turn lane and widening shoulders. Officials said the project will take approximately 18 months to complete, starting from the time motorists could see preparations taking shape three months ago in the form of caution barrels and land clearing in the right-of-way.

A new joint venture which will begin next month at Texas Tech University at Highland Lakes in Marble Falls could help increase the number of graduates earning higher pay in a technical job field.

Texas Tech University and Austin Coding Academy announced Wednesday, Sept. 18, a new partnership to launch the Texas Tech Coding Academy, a part-time web development program that prepares students for careers as web developers and software engineers.

Marble Falls City Council members suggested raising the base rate and consumption rate on water bills based on the cost projections of operating the water plant, paying off utility debt and anticipating future growth.

. . . The Marble Falls City Council approved exemptions on Sept. 17 for an amended “No Thru Truck Traffic” ordinance as well as added streets to the list of restricted zones.

Officials began researching ways in 2018 to reduce the noise and road maintenance impact in areas including the Main Street shopping district. In December officials debated the pros and cons of adding routes to the list of truck restricted areas.

A Marble Falls police officer was treated for injuries Sept. 20 after during the arrest of a suspect, wanted on a warrant charge, in the HEB grocery store.

The incident happened around 11 a.m. at the store, 1503 FM 1431.

While in the store, a Marble Falls police officer came into contact with a male suspect inside the store, according to the MFPD press release. The suspect attempted to flee.

Back-to-back crashes within a mile of each other on US. 281 between Burnet and Marble Falls around noon Sept. 19 delayed traffic for at least two hours as crew cleared the scene. At least four people were transported to the emergency room. The Texas Department of Safety is investigation the collisions.

Marble Falls city staff unveiled a timeline Sept. 17 for the completion of the remaining parks phase 1A projects underway – part of a multi-million dollar parks improvement program.

Either completed or remaining work involves the Hays Addition/Lakeshore Drive boat ramp, the Johnson Park boat ramp and Lakeside Park landscaping and electrical work, restroom and sidewalk work and Lakeside Pavilion parking and street upgrades.
