Contractor to trap wildlife in Marble Falls at rabies site for testing

Marble Falls Animal Control Officer Jacey Ferguson responded recently to a report involving a stray dog roaming a neighborhood. The community is on extra alert due to a report of a rabid gray fox which chased and bit a woman in her yard.

The city of Marble Falls has hired a contractor to trap and rabies test wild gray foxes near a neighborhood where a woman was attacked and bit by the creature, prompting a public alert.

The federal contractor, who lives in the Hill Country area, was scheduled to start trapping Sept. 13 in a rugged and wooded area adjacent to the 400 and 500 blocks of Avenue B and the 300 block of Sixth Street in Marble Falls.

Marble Falls and Sandy Harbor mark 9/11 anniversary with ceremonies

Various entities are commemorating the 18th anniversary 9/11 terrorist attacks with memorials and ceremonies. In Sandy Harbor, Stephanie Langseth concluded the community's 9/11 memorial ceremony this morning with the reading of a poem about the infamous day. This was the third year of the tradition in Sandy Harbor. A prayer was recited, the memorial bell – made from metal from the towers – was rung at 7:46 a.m. the moment the first airplane struck one of the Twin Towers. Marble Falls Rotarians are hosting an "Day of Remembrance" event at 5:30 p.m. today at Lakeside Pavilion to commemorate the attacks and to honor local first responders.

Marble Falls will observe the 18th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and United Airlines Flight 93 with a Day of Remembrance this Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Marble Falls Fire Rescue is asking the community to help fight for funds, education and awareness for those in the community who have been affected by all forms of cancer.

This year all proceeds will benefit Fighting for Gold, a local non-profit organization within our community that helps family's that have a child who has cancer.

This year's event will feature a Mr./Ms Pink Out 2019 competition, the best Pinked Out business contest and live music by the Queen of Texas Country Music Pauline Reese.

MFHS Mustangs doomed by turnovers in rivalry game

During the cross-county rivalry gam Sept. 6 in Burnet, the Marble Falls Mustangs had 20 offensive plays where they gained seven or more yards. At one point, the team had an 11-play drive in the first half that didn't result in points - crucial moments which fed the other team's momentum, according to the coach.

The Marble Falls Mustangs football team turned the ball over six times on Friday, Sept. 6 in a 41-6 loss against the cross-county rival Bulldogs in Burnet.

The Mustangs (0-2) gave the ball away on three lost fumbles, three interceptions, a turnover on downs and also allowed the recovery on an onside kick.

Despite numbers that show improved offensive production, the Mustangs' turnovers allowed the Bulldogs to score twice on defense and gave the Burnet offense several short fields.

A Marble Falls woman bitten by a rabid fox prompted Marble Falls Police Department's Animal Control Officer Jacey Ferguson to descend on neighborhoods to encourage residents to update pet vaccinations and beware of potential rabid wildlife.

A Marble Falls resident is undergoing rabies post-exposure treatments after being bit by a fox Sept. 4 that came into her yard and attacked a three-month-old puppy, officials said. The fox tested positive for the rabies virus, which also prompted a public alert.

“She does have bites. It's considered an exposure,” Marble Falls Animal Control Officer Jacey Ferguson said.
