Lady Stangs shoot lights out

Marble Falls shot the lights out Tuesday night in Gonzales.

The Lady Mustangs used mid-range shots from junior Aubree Adams for 15 points and long range bombs from Molly Myrick to take an emotional 63-58 victory over Port Lavaca Calhoun in a Region IV-5A playoff quarterfinal game at Gonzales High School.

“We got solid games from everybody,’’ Marble Falls coach John Berkman said. “From the starters to some of the role players, everybody contributed. This was fun.’’

Both teams combined for 14 makes for 3-point range. None were any bigger than the “Molly bombs’’ delivered by senior Myrick.

One of her biggest shots was a driving layup for a 58-55 lead with 2:19 left. But her long range shot for a 61-56 lead with 53 seconds left was the sealer almost.

Marble Falls' regional quarterfinal game with Port Lavaca Calhoun will tip off at 7 p.m.

at Gonzales High School in Gonzales. Originally it was set for 6 p.m. as the first game of a doublheader matchup, but the the team's for the second game cancelled.

That allowed Marble Falls to change the starting time.

Lady Stangs overcome athletic Houston

Marble Falls girls won’t back down from anybody. They showed in
Friday night in taking a 57-47 area round Class 5A, Region IV victory over San Antonio Houston at Cedar Creek High School.

Marble Falls’ Aileen Neri came off the bench to ignite the Lady Stangs in the physical affair. The referees spent most of the night deciding to call charging or fouls on defenders in the nip on tuck battle.

Marble Falls seized the upper hand early but was able hold off the 19-13 San Antonio squad because of the Hurricanes inability to shoot. The Hurricanes were terrible fron the floor and free throw line.

But the San Antonio school was persistent throwing up shots.

The score was just 8-5 Marble Falls after the first quarter. Marble Falls built a 24-16 lead at the halftime.

Marble Falls (24-10) will play San Antonio Sam Houston (19-13) @ Bastrop Cedar Creek High School at 7 p.m. Friday in the area round of the Class 5A-Region IV girls basketball playoffs.

DIRECTIONS: Give yourself an hour and half to make the 80 mile drive.

Take Texas 71 through Spicewood and Austin. Take 71 all the way through. Cedar Creek High School is on the southside of Texas 71. It is roughly 30 miles east of Austin.

Lady Stangs bury LBJ with big defense

Marble Falls rocked the gym Monday night taking a 62-28 victory over the LBJ Jaguars at Lake Travis High School to win their first playoff basketball game since 2011.

Everyone contributed in this one with all 12 players scoring led by standout games from Aubree Adams with 14 points and Aspen Woerner with 10 points.

Marble Falls took the game over late in the first quarter and dominated with its defense and inside muscle.

Adams had a huge third quarter with 10 points and scored off great passes from Molly Myrick.

“This is really big for us for what we’ve been through,’’ guard Tiffany Dunavant said.

Marble Falls advances to play the winner of Tuesday’s  battle between Richmond Foster and San Antonio Sam Houston.

Faith Academy plays for district title

 Faith Academy won last night and are now playing for the DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP tonight against Brentwood in the San Marcos Academy gym. Game time is 7:30.  Brentwood is the #8 ranked team in the state and presents a solid challenge with their size. The San Marcos Academy facility is really nice and is located at 2801 R.R. 12 in San Marcos 78666.
