Marble Falls faces a big week in softball this week.

The Lady Mustangs close out the first round of District 26-5A play with games against Lockhart and Dripping Springs.

Marble Falls (8-7-3, 4-1) picked up a big win Thursday with a 1-0 decision over Seguin on the road. The Lady Stangs go into the week in second place in the district a game behind Dripping Springs.

The Lady Mustangs will travel to Dripping Springs (5-0) Friday.

“It was a great win for our program on Thursday against Seguin,’’ coach Tim Richter said. “We talked about playing small ball and just to put the ball in play. We felt if we could put some pressure on their right side of the infield, we had a chance.’’

Jesse Stephenson was 3-for-4 batting and drove in the winning run in the top of the fith inning. She drove in Jaden DeLeon.

The Lady Mustangs had seven hits in the game and played error free ball on defense.

Jesse Stephenson went 3-for-4 and drove in the winning run to lead the Lady Mustangs to a 1-0 victory over Seguin.

The Lady Mustangs are 4-1 in District 26-5A action and 8-7-3 overall.

Logan Hulon allowed just four hits and struck out nine to pick up the pitching victory.

Hulon improved to 8-7 overall and upped her strikeout totals to 199 in 92.2 innings.

Marble Falls will play Lockhart at 7 p.m. Tuesday at home.

Marble Falls girls took fourth at the Kerrville Tivy Antler Relays with 96 points. Smithson Valley won the meet with 189 points to outdistance second place Kerrville Tivy. Smithson Valley ran away with the boys’ title with 242 points.

Marble Falls girls won the JV division with 183 points while the boys were sixth with 29 points.

Kim Boni took second in the 3200 meters a 11:41 time.

The girls 4x100 relay ran a 53.38 with Sarah Cauble, Naomi Pegues, Trinity Ware and Taylor Dixon running.

In the 800 meters, Deijah Torns ran a 2:2802 for third while Boni was fifth 2:27.65 and Sydney Gibson with sixth at 2:32.95

In the 100 meter hurdles Sarah Cauble was fifth at 17.43.

James Garrison  took sixth in the boys hurdles at 17.87.

Dixon was sixth in the 100 meter dash at 13.82.

Jonathan Abney was 10^th in the 100 meter dash at 11.95.

Marble Falls boys soccer team will advance to the Class 5A playoffs as the No. 2 seed after battling rival Dripping Springs to a 1-1 tie Friday at Mustang Stadium.

Marble Falls lost only one game all season and will carry a 18-1-6 season record into the playoffs against Austin Lanier.

The bi-district match is scheduled for March 24 at Nelson Field. The time is tentatively set for 7:30 p.m. at the field on Reagan High School’s campus.

“We had so many opportunities,’’ Marble Falls coach Rick Hoover said. “We had at least four opportunities that we normally score on. Ninety nine percent of the time we score on those type shots. Two of them were almost put back.’’

The only score of the game for Marble Falls came on shot by junior Cristian Ramirez off an assist from Gilder Vasquez.

He scored at the 27:28 mark of the second half to tie the game.

Marble Falls boys’ soccer team can claim the school’s first district championship in boys soccer with a victory over Dripping Springs and a Alamo Heights loss to Medina Valley Friday night.

Marble Falls, 18-1-5 for the season, carries an 8-1-4 record in District 26-5A action into the regular season finale. Alamo Heights has an identical district record and holds the head to head tiebreaker if they both end up tied.

The Mustangs clinched a playoff spot and no worse than the third seed when they beat Lockhart, 2-1, on Tuesday.

The Mustangs did it in dramatic fashion with Anthony Machuca playing the ball perfectly to Bernabe Torres for the winner with 11 seconds left.

The Mustangs berth in the playoffs is only the third one in the 25-year history of the program.

Head coach Rick Hoover has lead to team to the playoffs twice in his tenure.

Mustangs win 9-0 over Seguin. 

The Mustangs are currently tied for 2^nd place in district as they prepare to travel to Lockhart to battle the 1^st place Lions.  We are still in control of our situation.  If we win these last two games, we will be the district champions.  “It is up to us, how bad do we want it?”

Marble Falls’ softball team is going to rely on speed this year.

Starting four freshmen in the lineup might have its growing pains, but if the District 26-5A opener is any indication, the Lady Mustangs are going to be just fine.

The Lady Mustangs took care of business Tuesday night in the district home opener and beat San Antonio Alamo Heights, 7-1.

Sophomore pitcher Logan Hulon was sharp with his riseball working to perfection. She finished with 17 strikeouts and allowed only three hits. She walked two.

“I always feel like I’m going to pitch my best,’’ Hulon said. “I had my riseball working.’’

The Lady Mustangs improved to 4-6-2 overall by winning the district opener.

Marble Falls girls basketball didn’t play well in its last game of the 2016-2017 season, but this year will be marked as the time the team lived “Our Moment.’’

A 46-28 defeat in the Region IV-5A semifinals was hard to take. The Lady Mustangs big guns weren’t hitting and the Corpus Christi Flour Bluff Hornets played aggressively from the first tip and carried the momentum from a double digit lead at halftime all the way to a regional title and a berth in this week’s Final Four.

Flour Bluff’s Meredith Marcum and Mia Schlemme combined for 10 points and provided excellent ball-handling the seal the victory.

Flour Bluff carries a 29-9 record into its state semifinal matchup with Mansfield Timberview.

Faith Academy (34-4) will play Houston Lutheran North at 11 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, in the TAPPS Class 4A state semifinals at Kimbrell Arena on the campus of McMurry University.

The winner will play the winner of the Lubbock Trinity Christian-Amarillo San Jacinto game in Saturday’s 1 p.m. finals.

The Lady Flames are trying to capture their second state championship in four seasons. The Lady Flames went 30-4 in 2014 and won the TAPPS 2A title with a 47-45 win over New Braunfels Christian Academy.

Marble Falls shot the lights out Tuesday night in Gonzales.

The Lady Mustangs used mid-range shots from junior Aubree Adams for 15 points and long range bombs from Molly Myrick to take an emotional 63-58 victory over Port Lavaca Calhoun in a Region IV-5A playoff quarterfinal game at Gonzales High School.

“We got solid games from everybody,’’ Marble Falls coach John Berkman said. “From the starters to some of the role players, everybody contributed. This was fun.’’

Both teams combined for 14 makes for 3-point range. None were any bigger than the “Molly bombs’’ delivered by senior Myrick.

One of her biggest shots was a driving layup for a 58-55 lead with 2:19 left. But her long range shot for a 61-56 lead with 53 seconds left was the sealer almost.
